First let me say that, yes, I have listened to 10,000 days.

Second, let me say that I WILL be buying two copies of whatever is released May 2 by TOOL. 1 to listen to, the other staying sealed to collect. Dont ask why, I just like doing that...

Now, with that out of the way, If I remember correctly, wasnt it said that Danny played a gong on the new album. I may have just missed it but I dont recall hearing this at all. Any thoughts???

what happened to the 18( or thereabouts) minute track?There wasn't one. There was a 17 minute track though, which they split into LK and Rosetta Stoned.

maybe it stood for bong and not gong... we all know danny and justin are the big stoners in the group...

maynard and adam only wack the pipe once and a while...

It sounds like Danny hits a gong right before the talk box solo on Jambi...but it could be a guitar effect also.

The "gong" is what you hear at the beginning of Wings for Marie. Its just a different gong than most of you where expecting, thats all.. God..

There's definitely a gong hit near the end of Jambi as well.....

I've got footage of Danny hitting the gong towards the end of Lateralus. Are there any other songs where he uses it?

dont think we have the finished article. In the song Jambi...the gong kind of fucks up. Like Blair said in Feb newsletter

"However, when I arrived, even being a couple of hours late due to pub duty, they were still hard at work on it. Evidently, there was a recall of a certain song or perhaps it was just an intro or segue OR... no, the recall couldn't be for Danny's ****!.. "

the weird sound at the beginning of 'wings' is the gong. it was obvious to me, one of my buddies has one that sounds like that. its not the stereotypical gong sound from the cartoons. its actually much cooler. so many frequencies coming out of that thing, i'd love to analyze the vibrational modes there (i'm a physics student...). very haunting if ya ask me.
