I'm sure the Doc has an Australian accent? Or at least partially Australian.

What's with that?

The guy in Vicarious sounds Australian also. I think it is becaue Australians are awesome.

I think it's someone putting on a fake aussie accent. I swear at one point he says 'are' in a yank accent, and in another part he sounds like a pom.

I thought it was an English accent, certainly sounds that way in places. As for the news reader in Vicarious, almost certainly Australian.

Interesting.

He does have an Australian accent, but toward the end, when he says 'What happened, tell me everything', that sounds english to me.

I think it might be Billie Kennedy from Neighbours/House, the Aussie doctor.

The accent in Lost Keys sounds Australian to me too. And the voice in Vicarious as well. But that could be because I'm Australian. It may be English?

It's definitely a Brittish Accent. It sounds Aussie for the first couple of lines, but when he starts saying more is when it clears up as definitely English.

pfffft, Serena was where the hot was in that show, and everybody knows it. Pity they killed her (and all the other good characters) off.

Back on track though, WTF is with all the Australian references on this album?

I would most certainly say it's Australian (or at least an attempt at an Australian accent), most Americans don't know what an english accent sounds like, most supposed Englishmen on American TV have a silly ott almost half cockney accent like that of Dick van Dyke in Mary Poppins. Talking of Neighbours though, I saw Alan Fletcher who plays Karl Kennedy live, he was legendery, Tool should consider having him as tour support.

Yeah, that would be a great direction/move for the band: have a soap-star open for them at their concerts. I'm sure 'Dr. Kennedy' could really warm the crowd up...?

Anyway, here's my thought:

I reckon the doctor is definitely someone trying to do an Australian accent, but they just can't quite pull it off. It sounds far too 'twangy' (I'm not sure what the word is but it ain't genuine Aussie). Kinda reminds me of the voices used in The Simpsons episode 'Bart vs. Australia'. Those voices were hilariously bad (and I think intended to be bad by the show's creators...)

Anyway, genuine Aussie or not, I wonder why the band chose to have a doctor with an Australian accent in the first place? Seems kinda odd.

Did you mean to say soap-star? Are you sure you didn't mean legendery musician?

In all seriousness he was shit, but he worked the crowd really well, was one of the funniest gigs I have ever been to.

Doesnt Maynard say something about kangaroos in the pot too?

There's a photos on his wine site of him feeding a kangaroo. Looks like maynard has had australia on the mind.

In The Pot the Kangaroo reference is to a "Kangaroo Court" that hung the guilty with the innocent.

The Doctor is Australian, I'm English and that is an Australian accent, only Americans mix the two up. There are more alike than US/Australia or US/UK you see.

LOL DEFINATLY NOT A BIRMINGHAM ACCENT! LOL A brummy indeed!

Well then an Englishman says it isn't English and an Australian says that is isn't an Australian.

That settles it then. It's cleary an American trying to either sound English or Australian and failing to really capture the true sound of either.

Agreed. There's the odd vowel which sounds Aussie, which can happen with some Pommy accents, but it's clearly English towards the end.

Or alternatively an American stuffing up an attempt at either an Aussie or English accent.

I'm still sticking to the fact that that is a brittish accent, although it's one that has been out of britain for a while. So maybe whoever said Justin or Tricky might be right....

Reminds me of the simpsons episode set in Australia....damn they were some bad Australian accents.

The real reason I'm replying though is because the Simpsons episode in Australia was hilarious - Speaking as a Non-Australian living here... But, even better was the South Park Episode where Marvin flew the Alien ship and landed on the Island of Australia, and then the Mayor of Austtralia greeted him... Awesome!

Frizzer
04-29-2006, 11:04 PM
That was CLASSIC

"As the mayor of the fine planet of australia, i welcome you to our fine planet...of.. Australia! CHIRRY CHIP, CHURRAH!"

We so dont say that, but i wish we did!

The doctor is definatly Australian, because we've got the biggest tool fanbase per city in the world....or because we're so sexy....

I think Adam plays the voice on his guitar.

With the accent knob turned to the (bad actors') British/Australian setting.

Solved.

I can't believe how many people actually thought it was Chase from House. It sounds nothing like him, but it seems as though it's like 'Australian + Doctor = Chase'.

I definitely agree that while a couple of words sound Australian, generally the accent seems more British. The way he says 'Fella' also sounds like he's trying to sound Aussie.
