hard to say...at the moment the wings part 1/2 combo is literally dominating me. parabol/parabola did not seem to have that effect on me. time will tell though.

wings and 10000 days go very well together but they could each stand on their own. parabol and parabola each make each other better. the way parabola kicks in wouldn't be felt without the quiet of parabol. basically to me the question is irrelevant because they seem (at least to me) to serve different purposes.

It's really heard to tell, I liked Wings for Marie right off the bat but it took awhile to like Parabol(a) though it's one of my favourite's. It's too early for me to decide.

Wings for marie is a much less obvious introduction, which is perhaps why it is so good, it builds up so seamlessly.

This isnt the only song/song situation on the album. Intension and right in two are pretty much the same too...which is AWESOME!

i intended for this thread to compare parabol to wings for marie (part 1) not the Parabol/a suite to the Wings suite...

that said, yea there's obvious differences between Wings for Marie and Parabol (length being the most obvious of the obvious), but I'd say it's more of an introduction into 10,000 Days in the way it serves as an exposition and a build up to 10,000 days

I agree, its all just personal preference. Both are amazing, but I've got to admit, I'm falling in love with Wings/10,000 days more so than I ever was with Parabol/Parabola. I love the intro of both songs. The gongs and guitar are just dripping with anticipation that just constantly builds. In Wings it climaxes right around 4:12 and its just incredible. I just cant get over the tunderstorm in 10,000 days either! This truly is an epic production with so much emotion and purpose behind the music. Thats what I love about Tool so much. They truly put their heart and soul into the creation of this song. I could listen to this for hours on end.

I remember when I first listened to Lateralus (the album) and got to Parabol/Parabola. "Ok, the intro's cool", I thought to myself. Then the guitar riff got louder, like an earthquake was about to hit, and BAM!!! Parabola begins! JC, I can't even begin to describe what I felt that night. It was unique. I got goosebumps all over. Fuckin' amazing. And then the fact that the song was a fast, upbeat, 4/4 rhythm only heightened the sensation. I've never experienced anything similar since that day.

I guess my choice is obvious.

The climax going from parabol to parabola is a moment that wings never hits. Don't get me wrong, I'm growing to love the wings suit more and more as I listen to it. The thing for me is that while the "Give me my, give me my wings" is quite a chilling line, it doesn't go anywhere else after that and it takes almost 15 minutes to get there. I have to go with parabol/a on this one, but I would agree that Wings, like every song on here, is epic and deserves a spot near the top of the list.

^ Yup. I think "Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned" might be better than all three combos.

Both of them on their own are too incomplete for me, but if I had to choose, I think "Wings" works better by itself... that being said, "Parabola" works better with "Parabol" and I prefer "10,000 Days" on its own than with "Wings" at this point for some reason...

To me Parabol/Parabola is the better song over all. WMF is the better intro tho. I look at Parabol/Parabola like Flood. Its a build up, constantly, then the fall. But with WMF you have the same basic thing for 15 minutes. Dont get me wrong both songs are incredible, but for Parabol[a] takes the cake as far as interesting-ness.

wings for marie and 10,000 days are 2 different songs, while parabol and prabola is 1 song divided in 2 tracks.
