Okay.
The opening vocals.
Amazing.
One of Tool's finest moments?
Of course.

Anyone want to take a stab at deciphering the lyrics, though?

in my downlaoded version maynards voice is all raspy and he sounds like some sreamo guy, is that what he sounds like on yours?

It sounds like he's quoting the bible on part of it to me.

Sounds like the Third Eye of this album. Fucking weird, trippy, and awesome as hell.

his vocals sound imo similar to mike patton (when hes talking too fast to understand) and alot like layne staley towards the end (listen to "hate to feel" by aic, vocal styles are near identical).

This song is basicaly a story being told by someone tripping on LSD, hence the lead in "Lost Keys(Blame Hoffman)

Stripped down in my bed
Feet cold and eyes red
I'm out of my head
My life, am I dead?
Can't remember what they said
God damn! Shit the bed!

Haha, I'm no good at picking out lyrics but that "Goddamn, shit the bed" part I caught. Fantastic! I'm glad to see Tool being silly again, after all the seriousness in Lateralus.

Another part in the song that made me laugh: in the beginning Maynard singing quietly over a guitar part going, what I think to be, "Holy fucking shit, holy fucking shit, holy fucking shit."

i get the feeling that maynard took a massive amount of drugs, then wrote these lyrics.

i think they all must do some serious psychs before and during the construction of the last four studio albums.
blame psilo.

Why does everyone dig this song? I don't get it. Maybe I should listen to it more. Maynard's voice on this doesn't sound that great at all. And that "shit the bed" part is horrific.

I love the (holy fuckin shit!) echoing in the background after the beginning chaos

Also, little phrases like "Area 51" "ET" "X-Files" jump out at me

Funniest thing....

Overwhelming......?
placed in my position
Turning out to be the one
....the details of our ending
without a doubt for all the world to see
but i forgot my pen
shit the bed again... typical

i love this song

what ive heard so far; its nowhere near filled in, just bits and pieces, maybe over time some of yall can fill them in at some point. italics-fast paced verse at intro

alrighty then
picture this if you will:

began at 2 am
and im ......

approching area 51,
and im clocked in
...
hes against me because im a flake,
....
and he put something inside of my birkenstocks,
....
holy fucking,
.....
then the x files began,
with some kind of blurry
.....
my bug eyes,
might be a big jaw,

so on his way, like an apparition

fuck me, fuck me, dead head, chemistry,

you are the chosen one, the one who willl deliver the message,
me the chosen one, me? they chose me? i didnt graduate from fucking high school

kill me x6

and im

...box of krispy kremes

...area 51
contemplating...people...flaming

split the sky wide open
never expected to see a place like this

TOward the end

one would be placed in my position
such a heavy burden now to be the one
...
to write it down for all the world to see

but i forgot my pen
shit the bed agaaaaiiin.
typical

strapped down on my bed
feet cold
eyes red
im out of my head
my life, mind dead
sunkist, sudafed, ... nicoret
wont help the brain dead
cant remember what they said
god damn, shit the bed

(KICK ASS SCREAM)

cant remember what they said to me...made out to be? a hero

This is like I am the Walrus.. "Lets see if those fuckers can decipher this one"

I can imagine the band lauging after recording this thinking of some kid sitting at his computer for 10 hours trying to figure out the exact lyrics, then trying to find an esoteric parallel

not actually tripping on LSD...more about someone who cannot come back...
only really funny for acidheads :) I laughed

I just can't get into this song. I like the humor in Tool's work, but after an emotional climax like the one in 10,000 Days it's difficult to have pretty much four straight songs that don't take themselves seriously.
