These lyrics are soooo written to fit the music rythmically..
I mean, i think on previous records the lyrics were written in advance of the recording, on lateralus too.
Vicarious (and probably the other lyrics too) was no matter what written after the music was written, so cuz of this the lyrics are less free, like the part where he sings "part warrior, etc" is obviously written just to fit the instrumental rythm..

Am i being a dick here?
I dont even know if youll get what i mean..
It all sounds so simple compared to previous releases, but i really shouldnt post this till i have heard the entire album..

Maynard writes some stuff during the song's creation, but writes most of the lyrics after they are completed.

I kinda feel that too, the vocals are much more rythmical, that was about the first thing I noticed. In most of Tool songs the vocals flow kinda like on its own wave... I don't know how to put this well in words. But eitheir way, I don't think this is a negative point, It's just a bit different and it fits very well in the context of the song, personally I liked it.
Of course you shouldn't judge the whole album by this song.

An interesting point. I'm glad you brought it up. See, I love lateralus but if you pay attention it's so blatantly obvious that maynard added the words after the music was already completed (we knew this already, but pay attention and you'll reallyyyyy notice). It gives it almost a false feel to it for me, which is dumb I know, but for some reason I can't get past it.

As for Vicarious, I can't say I can tell one way or another if the words were added after the music was finished. I'm leaning towards it didn't by the way it sounds, but I have no facts to back this up, just a speculation.

Yes.

I don't think the lyrics flow well in this song at all really.

i love how he sings in 3 over the 10/8. orgasmic.

especially when they put the entire chorus in 3.

Clutch it like an AEnima
