I think its funny that Tool is playing at Southern METHODIST University even though the school isn't really that religious. I wonder if the school gets wind of who the band actually is if they'll still want to hold the event.

Thats the exact reason there SHOULD be a list or some sort of organization to this whole thing. Some people just cannot be around on Saturday morning to try and get tickets. We need to figure out who and how many of them there are. Then, half of us will inevitably fail to get them anyway. If by Friday we can figure these things out, people will be able to judge if one extra ticket per person will be enough or if some of us will have to get 3 extra tickets (I think ticketmaster has a 4 ticket limit). I will be up on Saturday and I will try to get 3 extra if it looks like its going to be necessary.

There will be no ticket presales for any of the tour dates so far. All tickets go on sale to the general public on Saturday, through your local ticket vendor.

Hopefully. $55 is the ticket price but who knows what the ridiculous ticketmaster fees will be on this one. Seems to change with every concert I attend. I went to a concert last summer...$85 face value and after fees it ended up being $109. I even used Ticketmasters cheap "print-a-ticket" system so they didnt have to mail it to me. Oh well.

I will be in Los Angeles when the tickets go on sale, what would be my best option for purchasing tickets? Online, I imagine, but would going to a Ticketmaster location be a better bet? Phone maybe?

This is a good situation. It means that right now, we are at about a 1:1 ratio of tickets needed to possible extra tickets. On average, if 50% of us fail to get tickets on Saturday morning, there will be enough for everyone with this ratio. We are currently a little below 1:1 though. I say on average because some of us need more than others and some of us need less so it is VERY situationally dependent. If this thread continues to be this busy there is no telling how this will end up working out.


I will be in Los Angeles when the tickets go on sale, what would be my best option for purchasing tickets? Online, I imagine, but would going to a Ticketmaster location be a better bet? Phone maybe?

I only need one for myself, but I will purchase the max and sell them FV to Houston area residents first that are willing to carpool with me to the show.


You can purchase tickets at ticketmaster locations only for the region you are in. Depending on how TM draws their maps, I dont think LA would be in the same region. I read this on the TM site earlier today but you may want to call somewhere and ask if the tickets are in their computer just in case because the website was sort of ambiguous about it. Online is the best bet if you have a connection other than dialup. Apparently at the ticketmaster locations they do a lottery. I dont know about the phones, ive never tried that.

Ticketmaster does a lottery for the line so even if you get there first, you are not guaranteed first in line. The lady on the radio station is speculating a 30 second sell out so if you dont draw first in line, you are probably screwed. If you can find some obscure TM outlet on the outskirts of town or something...that might work.

Yes, it will probably have to be done this way. I say we just pool all the extra tickets together and distribute them evenly across everybody depending on how many extras we get. Maybe allocate 2 per person and for anything over that, we may have to setup a lottery system or something. If anyone has any ideas, throw it out. We need to finalize these plans by Friday. I really have no idea how scarce these tickets are going to be...we could be grossly underestimating it.

Plexus and Prater are the only ones listed as actually going to a TM location. PM each other and make sure you arent planning on going to the same place. Also, Plexus, you might have your friend go to a different location too. Remember, Ticketmaster does a lottery for the order of the line and I bet the show will sell out by the time it gets around to the 3rd or 4th person...if not sooner so I would advise you to spread out as much as possible.

When it comes down to it, you can't stop ticket holders from doing what they want with the tickets. I think we should stress that people shouldn't just sign up onto the list for an easy ticket. The reason this might work is because we ALL try to get the tickets from ticketmaster in the first place. We help eachother, and in return get helped out.

There should probably be some organization to deciding who gets tickets. When people sign on to something like this, they do it with the belief that it will be done as fairly as possible. If we remove that and let the ticketholders distribute to whoever they want, there is no incentive for people to try as hard as they can to get whatever tickets they can and be honest about it. Then of course you could have a scalper sending out PMs behind everyones backs to everyone in this thread trying to get a ton of extra tickets.

No one should respond to PMs from people you dont know asking if you got extra tickets.

What I think we should do is have a tiered system. If we have enough tickets for each person to get 1, each person gets 1. Anything over that is distributed by lottery. If we have enough for each person to get 2 tickets, each person gets 2 (except the ones who only need 1) anything left over after that is distributed by lottery. So on and so on until we run out.

On Saturday afternoon, we should take an inventory and decide how many extra tickets we have IF we have them. Then, one of us will work out the distributions until we get to the tier where we need a lottery implementation. I think I have an idea on how this can work but ill type it out later.

Some people are going to try and fail. Others will try and succeed. Everyone needs to go into this trusting that everyone will get a fair shot because if not, the ones who succeed and get that magical confirmation screen just may not return here.

Trust and honesty are BIG issues with something like this. We must make sure that everything is as fair as it can possibly be or greed will take over. By joining this, we are all agreeing to look out for everyone else as long as everyone else also agrees to look out for us. This is critical. Lets prove to everyone why Tool fans are the best fans in the world and make this thing work.

I think its CST. As far as how the tickets get swapped, we can leave that up to the people doing the trade because some people dont want to hassle with the mail and others dont want to hassle with meeting up beforehand.

I dont think we should do any form of first come first serve because that penalizes the people who have unavoidable conflicts on Saturday. If you get extra tickets, come in here and simply post how many. Then we have to distribute them fairly later

My proposal:
On saturday afternoon we will get a tally of everyones extras. People who didnt get tickets will post messages letting us know. If we have enough extras for each person who didnt get any to get at least 1, each person will get 1. If we have enough for 2, each will get 2. And then a lottery for eveything above the level where we dont have enough extras for each person that needs one.

The lottery can work by assiging each person a number between 1 and X depending on the order in which they posted to this thread (solely to make it easy to assign numbers, this has nothing to do with 'seniority'). Then, THREE PEOPLE not in the lottery will use the random number generator at

http://www.random.org/sform.html

to generate three different sequences of random numbers between 1 and X.

These three sequences will be compared, and the middle of the three values will be used to determine who gets the first extra ticket above the level where we cannot distribute evenly. For example, we will put the 3 sequences together and if the first row is:

4 6 2

Then person 4 on the list would get the first extra ticket since it is the middle number. In the case of a tie, the lower number gets it.

Convoluted? Maybe. Unneccessary? Maybe...I am a TA in a computer lab at a university on certain days so I have tons of time to sit around and worry about this crap and type ridiculously long posts in between failed login attempts and people needing help to print files...

IMO, first come first serve would cause all sorts of whining and bickering. I think a lottery based on 3 different random number sequences would work best because it would be impartial and fair no one would be able to argue favoritism and the ones who signed this thread way back in the beginning who cannot be here on Saturday to get the first post in wont get the shaft.

I know there are a few (possible) problems with what I have written and a few points of contention that could probably be discussed from a different point of view. Go try it. This happens even on the main page. After about 10 refreshes it will lock you out for a few minutes. Theyre discussing it over on the thread for the PA tool show...go read there...someone found a way around it.

im sure everything will look great no matter where you are seating.

some places just might be worse than others...for example front row people, it will actually be like your at the movie theatres with your heads directly at 90 degrees.

Kato: Unless someone objects, all extra tickets are going to be counted and distributed out to people who did not get tickets. If there are enough extras for each person to get 1, each will get one. If there is enough for each to get 2, they will get 2. When it gets to the point where there are not enough, they will be distributed in a lottery. If, in the very rare situation that there are more left over than anyone needs, where those go will be entirely up to the ticketholder.

Did anyone try to get tickets online for the last minitour? Is the radio DJs "30 second sell out" prediction accurate? If this 30 seconds is actually closer to, even just 3 minutes, people would have time to be picky and refresh a few times to find seats they want. If I get seats, im buying the first thing that pops up but I know some people dont want to do this...would it be reasonable for them to try and get better seats? Anyone have any experience with this?

Some more info: I have a friend who goes to SMU. She said McFarlin is all seated, with two balconies. There are going to be 2,200 tix for sale, the place seats around 2,400. If everyone tries to buy max (whatever amount it is) at the same time, people may end up with no tickets instead of one or two extra. Natalie Portman: Its really up to whoever is selling. We cant force people to open Paypal accounts if they dont already have them. I would highly recommend it though. If the buyers want to mail money orders, it needs to be done as quickly as possible...like on Monday or Tuesday. If not, a swap outside the venue would work too. Personal checks will take too long to clear so no one should send personal checks.

Izep86: The order does not matter. About waiting in line...there are 2 others so far who are doing it I think. They probably use a lottery though if a lot of people show up so it may be actually be far worse than using the internet. Depends on where you go really. Call them up, find out what time they open (lots of places open at 10 on Saturday which is too late unless they plan to have their computers up and running before 10) and ask if they are using a lottery.

Daminate: Nice find. No one has bid yet though...but it DOES have 91 views. Ridiculous...im sure the serious scalpers and "ticket brokers" (what a moronic phrase) already have huge blocks of seats. Thats how Ticketmaster works. Ive decided I am going to go somewhere else to use a computer on Saturday. Somewhere that has 7 megabits upstream as opposed to my cable modems 500 kilobits. If anyone else has similar options, I suggest you do it. 7 megabits will get your request to ticketmaster FAR faster for something like this that will sell out in less than a minute.

I called a venue last night. They open at 9AM, which is awesome. The guy said they had no line as of then, but I'm guessing that may change. The good thing is that this venue is kind of out of the way as far as Tool fans may go, so who knows. I've got some people that live near it scouting, so if they see a line start to form on Friday (or earlier), I'm hopping in the car and camping out. I've got multiple internet buyers, so I can afford to risk camping out. I just got off the phone with Ticketmaster. They've got their lips shut, other than the date the tickets go one sale. The guy I talked to did say that the best bet is to buy online though. I still may camp out, I don't know. I'll post it if I do.

I just got off the phone with 2 ticketmaster locations in Texas and they both told me that max tickets for this show is 2.

I dont know how much the people at TM retail outlets would know but...this sucks. He looked on his computer and said it had max of 2 for the "initial onsale."

Natalie Portman: I think you're on to something. I doubt they'll track IP adresses, especially since these tickets are going to be going so quickly. I say anyone who has multiple cards should set up multiple accounts. If you do this, write ("Number" Accounts) next to "Buying Online". Update the total at the bottom by however many more tickets you can possibly buy. Here's what I'm thinking:

I don't know if you saw what Futureal wrote, but he/she called ticketmaster and they said there will a two-ticket limit per person. Thats why I adjusted the numbers on anyone who was originally buying 4. Natalie Portman borught up a good point that we might be able to open up multiple accounts on Ticketmaster, but then futureal's posting about Ticketmaster's ability to revoke your tickets if they feel you're not allowing everyone a fair chance. Its risky setting up 2 accounts. I'd try to get a friend or family member to help before I set up two accounts. That way you can't be accused of cheating.

I've seen a couple things said about this, but I want to make sure we're all on the same page as far as payment goes. Preferrably, we'll use PayPal. If you don't have a PayPal account, set one up ASAP as it takes a couple days to verify all the bank info. If you have to, you can meet up at the venue with cash. I don't think checks would be a good idea if you meet in person, since we've got no way of knowing whether the checks are good or not. And obviously credit cards are out of the question.

Here's another thing: How are we going to distribute once tickets are sold out? Post your ideas. I think we could start another list that just has your name, how many tickets you have FOR SALE (it won't matter how many you bought), and how you're planning on getting the money (paypal, cash). For example

Like I said, similar to the old list, just very simple. Let me know if anyone has a better idea. I've never done this before, so I'm just pulling stuff out of my ass. I think the main thing is to keep organized.

One more thing: Do we know how we will determine who gets tickets? Say we end up with 40 tickets for sale and we need 50. Who gets those 40 and who doesn't? My first opinion is simply to do it in chronological order, starting with the earliest posters in this thread. That would make sense. I have a feeling people will start offering tickets to the highest bidder, but remember, the whole point of this forum is so that we don't have to pay 300 fucking dollars on eBay. Post your ideas and lets figure something out. Saturday's getting close. I'm so stoked, I've listened to Vicarious on a loop for the past two days.

This 2 ticket limit makes me very pessimistic. It truly changes everything. Instead of 10 people getting one extra ticket each and 4 getting 3 extras each (with some in between), we now have 4 people getting one extra each and the rest getting nothing (with a few in between). I hope everyone has their plans set for Saturday. This is really a terrible situation for the people who needed more than 2. Like I said earlier, hopefully this will slow down the rate at which it sells out so more of us can get tickets. If anyone doesnt want to read back in the thread, there is a 2 ticket limit on this show according to 2 ticketmaster outlets in Texas.

Best case scenario, we will have some extra tickets to give to the people who needed more than 2. Worst, we dont have enough to cover the people who didnt get any and only needed one. Anyway, a lot of this organization and crap we have done up to this point is no longer necessary because of the ticket limit. Ideally, 5 or 6 wouldve been best. 4 was workable. 2 is virtually impossible.

I dont want anyone to give up on this, the scale is just so much smaller now that all formalities have to be effectively thrown out the window. We were right at the sweet spot between small scale barbarism and large scale bureaucratic ineffeciency. Oh well.


I doubt we will have enough extra tickets to be able to distribute them in an orderly fashion. People are going to be sending PMs and trying to bribe the extra tickets from others.


Either way, even if only one ticket goes into the hands of someone for face value who wouldnt have originally gotten it, none of our efforts here were wasted.

No kidding...I didnt know about the refresh thing until yesterday. That was my plan from day 1 too. Yes, getting multiple buyers will work but its not convenient anymore. Before, it was very convenient to just click the max and go through but now, I dont think a lot of people will want to go through the added trouble of multiple buyers. If a few people do it, it will help out quite a bit though.

There should probably be some organization to deciding who gets tickets. When people sign on to something like this, they do it with the belief that it will be done as fairly as possible. If we remove that and let the ticketholders distribute to whoever they want, there is no incentive for people to try as hard as they can to get whatever tickets they can and be honest about it. Then of course you could have a scalper sending out PMs behind everyones backs to everyone in this thread trying to get a ton of extra tickets.

No one should respond to PMs from people you dont know asking if you got extra tickets.

What I think we should do is have a tiered system. If we have enough tickets for each person to get 1, each person gets 1. Anything over that is distributed by lottery. If we have enough for each person to get 2 tickets, each person gets 2 (except the ones who only need 1) anything left over after that is distributed by lottery. So on and so on until we run out.

On Saturday afternoon, we should take an inventory and decide how many extra tickets we have IF we have them. Then, one of us will work out the distributions until we get to the tier where we need a lottery implementation. I think I have an idea on how this can work but ill type it out later.

Some people are going to try and fail. Others will try and succeed. Everyone needs to go into this trusting that everyone will get a fair shot because if not, the ones who succeed and get that magical confirmation screen just may not return here.

Trust and honesty are BIG issues with something like this. We must make sure that everything is as fair as it can possibly be or greed will take over. By joining this, we are all agreeing to look out for everyone else as long as everyone else also agrees to look out for us. This is critical. Lets prove to everyone why Tool fans are the best fans in the world and make this thing work.

I dont think we should do any form of first come first serve because that penalizes the people who have unavoidable conflicts on Saturday. If you get extra tickets, come in here and simply post how many. Then we have to distribute them fairly later

My proposal:
On saturday afternoon we will get a tally of everyones extras. People who didnt get tickets will post messages letting us know. If we have enough extras for each person who didnt get any to get at least 1, each person will get 1. If we have enough for 2, each will get 2. And then a lottery for eveything above the level where we dont have enough extras for each person that needs one.

The lottery can work by assiging each person a number between 1 and X depending on the order in which they posted to this thread (solely to make it easy to assign numbers, this has nothing to do with 'seniority'). Then, THREE PEOPLE not in the lottery will use the random number generator at

http://www.random.org/sform.html

to generate three different sequences of random numbers between 1 and X.

These three sequences will be compared, and the middle of the three values will be used to determine who gets the first extra ticket above the level where we cannot distribute evenly. For example, we will put the 3 sequences together and if the first row is:

4 6 2

Then person 4 on the list would get the first extra ticket since it is the middle number. In the case of a tie, the lower number gets it.

Convoluted? Maybe. Unneccessary? Maybe...I am a TA in a computer lab at a university on certain days so I have tons of time to sit around and worry about this crap and type ridiculously long posts in between failed login attempts and people needing help to print files...

IMO, first come first serve would cause all sorts of whining and bickering. I think a lottery based on 3 different random number sequences would work best because it would be impartial and fair no one would be able to argue favoritism and the ones who signed this thread way back in the beginning who cannot be here on Saturday to get the first post in wont get the shaft.

Thanks for the posts guys, If anyone has any concerns about this, go for it. I know there are a few (possible) problems with what I have written and a few points of contention that could probably be discussed from a different point of view. We still have some time to finalize things. It doesnt look like we are getting many new recruits today so maybe this thread will slow down and not swell up into some huge monster.

I did that with NIN and got tickets by clicking refresh with about 15 sec before the time, I don't know if it will help or not but try it cause your clock may be about 10-15 sec off which could be the difference between getting them or not. The guys on the PA thread found a way around this :)

Open a bunch of IE windows. Go to the page for the concert. Refresh over and over until you are locked out. close that window entirely, in another window, paste the URL and hit enter. Works like a charm, I just tried it out several times. Also remember, that if you look for tickets in one window and then look for them in another, it will release the tickets it reserves for you in the first window so everyone, once it goes on sale, stick to one window.

Edit: Also, I went through refreshing at a rate of once every 5 seconds...I made it to 20 refreshes and it didnt lock me out

Edit 2: Izeps first method would probably work better...have like 10 windows and just rapid fire refresh across all 10. By the time you loop back to the first one, it will have been 5 seconds and you wont get locked out

The guys on the PA thread found a way around this :)

Open a bunch of IE windows. Go to the page for the concert. Refresh over and over until you are locked out. close that window entirely, in another window, paste the URL and hit enter. Works like a charm, I just tried it out several times. Also remember, that if you look for tickets in one window and then look for them in another, it will release the tickets it reserves for you in the first window so everyone, once it goes on sale, stick to one window.

Edit: Also, I went through refreshing at a rate of once every 5 seconds...I made it to 20 refreshes and it didnt lock me out

Edit 2: Izeps first method would probably work better...have like 10 windows and just rapid fire refresh across all 10. By the time you loop back to the first one, it will have been 5 seconds and you wont get locked out

Futureal and I talked, and we came up with a "waterfall" method. he's going to make a tipsheet with things like quick checkout and this waterfall method, among other things, so everyone can be as prepared as possible. he'll spam it throughout the day on this thread, so keep your eyes out.

i just found another way to get around the "lockout", since i dont use IE.

if your using firefox, go to Tools, then Options, click the privacy button up top, then click cookies, and at the bottom right click settings. check all the boxes EXCEPT "ask me before clearing private data".

now all you have to do, is in firefox, if it locks you out, hit ctrl+shift+delete. it clears all cookies, so it resets the lockdown timer.

as a quick note, it will also log you out of ticketmaster, but thats no biggie...you dont need to be logged in to reserve tickets. only to pay for them hehe.

I've got no idea how they do. My guess would either be that they don't have tickets and are praying to sweet Jesus that they can get them, or they've got connections. Think: the entire Tool cd was leaked because of an insider. Someone always has an insider, which fucking sucks for us. There are listings for tickets on different ticket agencies that are priced at $150-$400 per.

The ones that were up there 2 days ago said "seats will be announced on Saturday" which means they apparently didnt have the tickets in hand.

Does anyone know if not announcing the seats would be indicitive that they dont have them or is there some "scalpers code of honor" that prevents them from anmouncing the seat details before they go on sale?

Thanks for the tips Futureal...good stuff there. Anyone else San Antonio trying to get tickets to this show? I'm debating whether or not to go to a retail outlet or try my luck online. The majority of the outlets are HEB grocery stores which I don't think is going to be a viable option. IIRC, the ticketmaster computers are in the little customer service nook they have there where you can cash checks, pay your cable bill etc. and there is only one line. So no matter how early I get there, I'm goning to have to wait behind someone cashing a payroll check or renwing their registration sticker. If this is anything like the last mini-tour, which I'm pretty sure it is, we're talking about mere SECONDS before this whole puppy is sold out.

Foley's is another option but I just got off the phone with them and they open at 10:00am. The lady I spoke with said that they will not open their doors until 10am. Figure in the time to walk to the ticket counter, them to fire up the computers etc. and it doesn't bode too well.

Anyone in San Antonio have any other tried and true methods or some info on an out of the way supersecret TM outlet? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Yeah, these things are going FAST. I'm pretty sure the original scalpers on eBay didn't have tickets. I actually e-mailed the original guy and he said that he'd let me know saturday monring (i.e. 10AM). He's just like us. I'm not sur eabout the other scalpers. I'm betting that very few, if any, have actual tickets. Most are just banking on luck. These prices are worth it, but I still want to try my luck here.

I've talked to a ticketmaster venue in dallas a couple of times now. Here's the basic idea: if you're first in line, you've got a good shot at tickets. your venue must open before 10 or there's no way in hell you'll get tickets. If there are more than 3 people in line, GO HOME. You don't have a chance at all if there are more than 2 or three people in line. Ticketmaster does not have phsyical tickets, they access the pool just like we will saturday morning. This show will sell out in seconds, I have no doubt. 2,200 seats is nothing. I've got a girl going to this venue at 7am, and they open at 9. If she's first in line, she'll stay. If there are more than 3, she's going back to her computer at home. Don't risk it guys. I even talked to a representative at ticketmaster, and she said that your best bet is either being first in line or going on the internet.

Things to remember for tomorrow. If you are buying online, PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POST.

1. Log on to Ticketmaster at about 9:50. Be registered tonight. STORE YOUR CREDIT CARD TONIGH with ticketmaster that way you can do quick checkout. Get several IE windows open and to the page for the concert.

2. Go to www.time.gov and get an official clock. If anyone knows anything about Ticketmasters clock, let us know. This is the best we can do right now.

3. I would refresh about 9:55 just to make sure. And once every minute until 9:58 or so. From that point, you can refresh each IE window, one after another and you wont get locked out as long as you time it right. Dont refresh any one window more than once every 6 seconds. If you have 6 windows, you can refresh a different one once a second. If you have 3 windows, once every 2 seconds. If this is a bad explanation, someone fix it.

If you have firefox, try iamdisgustipateds method. It sounds very good.

4. When it goes on sale, select your number of tickets and hit next. Do not fiddle around with the seating options and the price options. Leave everyone set to the default "best available."


This is going go be a test of who can jam their request in to ticketmasters servers first. The website telling you if you got it or not is most likely going to very slow to load. Wait for it and be patient. It will only mess you up if you go to a different window to try it again (unless you get "page not found" which would totally suck).

WHEN THEY GO ON SALE, STOP OPERATING MULTIPLE WINDOWS OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR SEATS


In conclusion:

Register tonight, type in your credit card info tonight
Log on 10 minutes early tomorrow
use www.time.gov
WATCH YOUR REFRESHES
Do not use multiple windows when tickets go on sale
BE PATIENT

Absolutely yes. It will release your tickets if you try to reserve something else in another window. You may be able to use two browsers. If you get locked out on IE with refreshes and go to Firefox, you are not locked out so I am guessing the two browsers cannot share information. Its risky though and none of us can test this right now.

Toronto had a presale where they sold at least half of the tickets.

Hey dude, I hate to be an asshole, but the only way we can get you tickets is if everyone else is satisfied as far as what they need. The point of this website is to work together to get as many as possible. If we have any left over after we distribute the extras, you can most definitely have them. But users on the list get preference since they are both buying and needing. Good luck dude, I really hope we have an extra for you, I want everyone in this thread to see the most amazing concert they'll ever see in their lives.

I'd like to wish everyone good luck for tomorrow. This is my first post, though I've been following the board for a while now, and it seems like everyone here really deserves to go to what will undoubtedly be an amazing show. I guess you could say I'm pretty familiar with McFarlin Auditorium, so I'd like to just confirm some things mentioned earlier. I'm almost 99 percent sure there will be no pit, as the seats are all pretty firmly in place. Also, the venue is VERY exposed, in that there really is no "secret" entrance or exit for performers, so some people might want to have their eyes open for any of the guys before/after the show. The auditorium is just that...an auditorium. There is no concessions area, no real lobby, no tunnels...the only things besdies the actual theatre are a few offices. Point is, the guys won't be able to get in and out without walking right in the front, back or side doors, all of which are exposed to the surrounding area.

On a lighter note, I'd like it if everyone makes a few "predictions" for the setlist. I'm not sure if there is a thread for this, but I'm curious as to what songs people think they will play. Thanks.
