And I said this somewhere else too but here goes. I think the alarm transitions the song from something that is somewhat reminiscent (sp) of lateralus tool to the new 10,000 days tool. The intro to vicarious sounds so similar to the bridge in schism. Knowing how to play schism and spending some time tabing out vicarious today they are pretty damn close to identical. Then after the alarm sounds for the third time, well, I just don't think there is anything else by tool that sounds remotely like that.

Tool.
Kabir released a line somewhere in the album - "10,000 days in the fire is long enough." A possible interpretation - could he be telling us that this will be the last album?

Seriously, just wait till the damn album comes out, I can guaruntee the 10,000 days thing is way over our heads, that we will never grasp it. Without hearing the album, how the hell are we meant to understand it.

Well then this new single and this information is not Tool either way. Remember how the Patient got you nutcases thinking the same damn thing? Also remember in a recent interview that Maynard gave possibility on still playing with Tool at 50. Tool is not so self-centered that they have to include themselves as a part of their music. I'm sure they've grown from that. You know, the whole evolving thing they seem to mention through their music, the references to Bill Hicks and all the other information you seem to bypass.

No.

Although I have once said myself that this would be Tool's last album, I'm starting to think otherwise but then again you just never know. With what you said and if those lyrics are correct, then "10,000 days in the fire is long enough" wouldn't relate to Tool because they haven't been around as a band for 27.4 years.

I get the feeling Tool will at least have one more album after 10,000 Days.

does'nt 10000 days in the fire relate to his mother? she lived for 27 years with the complications of a brain aneurysm. To me, the alarm clock sound reinforces the message of the song, WAKE UP!

The wikipedia article on the album states that 10,000 Days (~27 years) is approximately the amount of time Maynard's mother (Judith Marie) suffered the effects of stroke-enduced paralysis before finally dying. Which really makes Wings/10kDays a beautiful goodbye (and also explains APC's Judith:

It's not like you killed someone.
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side.
Praise the one who left you
Broken down and paralyzed.

(I guess this post really belongs in the 10kDays/Wings Pt.2 forum).
