Well...the idea that tool's cover of No Quarter is "better than the original" is definitely a questionable one. It's kind of like the old apples/oranges comparison. I agree with an earlier post on this board: the live version (from The Song Remains the Same) of Led Zeppelin playing No Quarter has to be one of my 25 favorite performances, for sure. There's just something wonderful about the texture that John Paul Jones's organ lends to the overall effect. If we fast-forward ~25 years, we'll find Tool making this song their own, changing lyrics, effects, and adding on a sweet, Rage-esque coda at the end of it. I don't prefer either version, really, but like each for its own merits. That in itself speaks highly (in my opinion) of the process that both bands arrived at their final versions. Probably my favorite Zeppelin song......didn't Howard Stern say that this was his favorite Zeppelin song, too??
