They say they all have the same amount of influence on the album.
So my guess, without having heard the single, is all of them.

I also think it is pretty funny that the first four responses to the original question managed to list every member in the band.
However, for my two cents, I was listening to lateralus in the morning and I was really struck by how much more up front in the mix Danny's playing is on this new track.

In the recording, I was surprised and intruiged by the level of Maynard's vocals. They really aren't in the forefront anymore, but they are still just as powerful.
Really... I think this is the most even recording I've heard of them so far. Lateralus was REALLY drum heavy, Aenima REALLY vocal, and Undertow/Opiate REALLY guitar driven. This song seems very much all of them together, although, interestingly, Justin is featured in many spots.

Either guitarist. The guitars stand out the most.

i really like the fact that the first four replies in this thread all immediately listed a different band member. that's how it is, thats tool, each one is 1/4 of the whole, they all work together to create better music.

A very hard question to answer. I think of the album cover when I try and hear who is more up front, they have meshed their instrumental identities into one inter-being, like one big holistic tool.

This surprised me, as I was thinking that the 3rd and 4th guitarist really were more to the forefront.
And Im also surprised that the flautist has still gotten no props.

I was originally disappointed by their decision to even it out, leaving Maynard sounding much less powerful. I think that it sounds better each time I hear it though, so I really don't know how I feel. I think that Adam is strong, as well as Justin. It's a great song--it does showcase them collectively.
