View Full Version : Embargo ends April 13th

This is the date when the embargo ends. I'm kind of curious, though.

They've released the album name, tracklist, some artwork and some tour dates. So, why is there still an embargo?

Ocelot199

Because the name, tracklist and artwork are all an elaborate hoax!

what information do you have to back this up?

champion
04-03-2006, 03:28 AM
Blair's emails saying so, as well as common sense. The embargo was in place to control the information release. It's been lifted since magazines with interviews are being released this week and the title and track-listing have been officially announced by the band.

In comparison to usual release choronology of other albums (for the sake of the release date of the Tool album, let's use the new Red Hot Chili Peppers album as its comparison because they are coming out the same week), the single should be getting out there very soon.

Today iTunes released a pre-order for the RHCP album, along with their new single to buy, but the single is also out to download on various P2P, etc... I understand that, yes, this was a completely promotion-based move for the album, but it is usually about a month before the release date that one can find the first single off of a new album popping up on the internet.

I suspect we will be hearing the new Tool single within the next week.

Of course, what do I know?

This is just like the "Dambargo" Act of 1807. Man, it really screwed us. No imports or exports till England or France lifts their restrictions. Thankfully, the Embargo Act was abolished just before Jefferson left office. But, when Madison stepped in he initiated the Non-intercourse Act, which forbade imports or exports only with France and England and not all foreign countries. Finally, Macon's Bill No. 2 stated that the U.S. would trade exclusively with whichever country(England or France) lifted it's restrictions first. Of course, Napoleon jumped at this opportunity, further marring relations with Great Britian leading into the War of 1812.

Yeah! They really beat the system... good for them. If a leak were to get out, they might actually have to settle for a private jet without surround sound dvd players. And we can't have that. Seriously, stop verbally sucking off the band as if they were a group of disenfranchised turd miners. They're going to make millions off the album, regardless of leaks, and millions more during their shows. A leak isnt going to set them back, that's just a ridiculous amount of greed for you.

I don't really think Tool has ever come off as greedy pricks. I'm not saying holy shit they deserve all this money, blah blah.. I download CD's all the time. In fact, I never buy CD's anymore. The point I'm making is that people should stop being whiny fucking bitches because they're not leaking their album or showing it off like other bands. Tool isn't like that many other bands, so get the fuck over it.

You don't know what you are talking about. Do you really know how much a band makes off of a record? Not that much. And it is their music, so it should be their decision as to when they want to make it public. I think its great they are taking all of these precautions to stop the threat of their music being leaked.

If you're pissed about Tool's embargo or their keeping of information from us, you're a fucking goon. God forbid they try and beat the system and keep their music off the internet until it's fucking released officially.

You really think blocking people from reviewing the album has anything to do with preventing leaks? You really think not discussing what instruments were used, things that happened in the process of making it, what people were involved with the album, ANYTHING to do with ANYTHING to do with the album - you think that keeping all that kind of information under wraps has anything to do with stopping the album from leaking? You're retarded if you do.

Whatever they're doing to keep the album from leaking is working - not distributing CDs, not even pressing them until the last minute, doing the artwork in-house or by someone trusted, not letting a single copy of the CD out of their sight, etc.

The embargo on information or discussion about the album is a totally seperate issue, and in no way affects leaking or not leaking. You're the goon if you think Tool can "do no harm" and that everything they do is for a reason and for a good reason. This embargo fucking sucks, and they way they're handling this release (Andy's review and the radio station reprimand for instance) turns my stomach.

As someone else mentioned on the board, it would make more sense to release to the Lateralus tour DVD while still in the Lateralus "era". If it doesnt come out now, when WILL it come out?

Or perhaps all the excitment surrounding the 10,000 days tour would generate enough interest to shift a few hundred thousand(?) copies.

I will only say this.

People heard about the "embargo" from someone close to Andy King, who was the first to have a full run-in with the management about the violation. However, the date is something that we've only seen mentioned in a couple places, and both times it seemed a little out of the norm. We were told it was meant as a "Kerrang!" exclusive and that the embargo was the barrier for that information.

I don't think we're going to see an avalanche of info tomorrow. In fact, we may see one or two articles, but I doubt we'll see anything out of the ordinary. People on this board have just built it up, made threads about it, and freaked out over it. Just like April fools, fake album titles, etc.

The best thing to do is ignore what everyone on here says and just check the news sections on most of the fan sites. Thats where verified information finds itself most of the time, although sometimes its bullshit too.

But for now, don't wait up for tomorrow. I imagine it may be pretty slow.

It pisses me off when people argue favouring downloading, going on rants about how (instert band member here) needs more money or private jets or w/e. i apologize for the brashness of my post. but if you feel that way, then you understand what i ment. (i did catch a whiff of sarcasm...but it wasn't obvious enough. they actually may have someone on this forum that would say something just like that.)

Was it in that newsletter about those giant rocks? 'Cause I didn't read that thing.

Wasn't one of the places from the lady that said she refused to abide by it?
Or did I just dream that?

Ideally, I'd like to be able to hear the single before I'm able to sit and read all these reviews of the entire album. That will be sorta painful.

As far as I know, I haven't seen that anywhere. That being said, the only other source I recall was the Dutch guy.

Ah, I see.

Well, unfortunately, the article doesn't really back up any information with the date, all it notes is that there IS a bit of a gag order on those who got to go to the listening sessions. We have no way of knowing those details definitively.

So I say again.. don't cross your fingers.

True. I'll still cross my fingers. I won't hold my breath though.

I just wonder what exactly was in these 3 pages worth of contract. Possibly some interesting stuff which no one who has heard the album (and signed the waiver deal) can discuss.

I wonder if McCabe is the only one that has read iit and not signed it.

This is the date when the embargo ends. I'm kind of curious, though.

They've released the album name, tracklist, some artwork and some tour dates. So, why is there still an embargo?

What happens the 13th, i thought the single comes out on the 17th

See, that's what I mean. I don't understand why everyone's like "OMG MIDNIGHT THE EMBARGO IS OVER!!!!!"

Isn't a press embargo just something so they can't release reviews? Those interviews we've gotten this past wee are probably better than any review we are gonna read from here on out until we actually get the CD.

if your taking the piss i actually ment some good reviews, not those crappy ones that just talk about the 5 year break and albem name and track list. I want to know excactly what when on in those listening sessions. Im surprised tht nothing leaked from the NZ listening sessions apart from Rip it up because the said there where contest winners in the room. You would think they wouldnt have held there toung would they?

Idiotica
04-13-2006, 02:40 AM
contest winners would not keep to an embargo! seems odd. oh well. were those winners names published? lets hunt them down....

Dirty_doris
04-13-2006, 02:47 AM
Yeah i wasnt awear of any type of contest. IF there was one it would have been on The Rock or C4 or juice, eather that or they are aussie contest winners... but weird how nobody has spoken out.
