View Full Version : The Abandoned Logo...

So, if this logo that we can all see on Toolshed, Amazon, etc. (the one that some say looks more like "fool") is the real new one for the CD, shirts, advertising, etc., then why did TOOL create and ditch that other logo? You know, the one that has been around online for a year or so? It is all lowercase letters, and the letters are all connected. I don't know what word would be good to describe the typeface/font for it, but it is the one with the pointy edges and diamond-like holes in the 2 Os of TOOL. Was it really a creation of the band? If so, why make it and not use it? It never even made it onto one of their recent post-Lateralus shirts. Odd. It certainly does support the theory that the advertised logo(if not more) is fake. Speculate away!

It was created by Joshua Davis for the new Tool site and he was hoping they might use it on the album.. guess they didn't

So instead they hired some 12-year-old to come up with a new logo and the band liked it and went with it...

actually i like that one better. The capital 'T' fits well - they could make the 'OO's larger to fill the gap. Right now they look like eyeballs or titties--- t(.)(.)l

And they ditched the logo from pre-lateralus already, so it isn't new.Which logo, exactly, are you talking about?

everyone knew the website logo wasn't the new band logo. how many times do things have to be said before they start sinking in.

This question has bugged me a little too. Not only did it seem likely that was going to be the album logo, but it is a much better logo.

Man, DAVIS CREATED IT FOR THE SITE. That's all. He said it was just for the site.

I hate the chain logo and the new logo personally even if it is a amigram. I love the one on toolband opening page a lot though.

i agree - the letters look like razor blades to me, they should have used it instead of this new one

What if the "fool" element of the new logo is meant outwardly? As in the band calling someone (or many someones) a fool?

I kind of like how the O's are like two beings in the same capsule. "...I am not alone in this body", right?

By comparison, the logo from Ænima contains letters that are formed by the black space linking two bars that are parallel. Like an 11 on it's side. Is it the "shadow" that connects them? Does the residue between the 1's suggest that the shadow is streching them apart? The O's in that logo certainly contain something I've never seen in an O before.

The Lateralus logo is completely connected by bars that resemble the bar that connects the II's of an "H". And it's all lower case. A reference to "jimmy"? There aren't many instances when the band goes all lower case. Somehow, it seems to be relevant on some level.

At first, I liked the razor logo more...but now im digging the new one, it's sleak, sexy and looks "future esq"...and it's alot different from the older logos, which is cool.

clarity.

I see "tool" not "fool"

Clutch it like an AEnima

that was before they changed it to a capital T, when it had a lower case t it looked like fool

Fuck the logo, they still haven't given us a Christmas album yet, I'm still waiting to hear classics like, Jingle Bells, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town and Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer.

The new logo doen't look like "fool" to me either. The bottom of the "t" is curved inwardly, which suggests (oddly enough) a fucking "t." To spell "fool" with that font then the bottom of the "f" should be symmetrical, in this case curved outwardly on both ends.

whats an 'amigram' ?

The word is actually ambigram (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambigram). The newest Tool logo is not exactly an ambigram, however.

I thought he was tryign to say "anigram" which would be a word formed by rearranging the letters of a pre-existing word. Such as 'read' to 'dear'

As I said earlier, he was likely trying to say "ambigram."

Furthermore, anigram isn't a word, but "anagram" is.
