Wasn't -Marie- Maynard's mom's middle name?
And April 17th is Maynards B-day. So maybe that has a significance w/ the date of the single being released?

Was "Wings for Marie" the track in the Andy King review that he gave a lyric sample? Along the lines of "you always held your head up...now it's my time" or something...

Could be

but i say the pot, since the andy king review said "THIS IS THE ONE" and "the most radio friendly tool song"

But tool probablly won't go for something radio friendly for their first singe, they will probablly go with something...different

I dunno...I expect that The Pot will be the first radio single and Wings for Marie/10,000 Days will be another song to add to collection of amazing Tool epics in the tradition of Pushit/Third Eye/Lateralus/Reflection

Well my point was that - The title seems to make sense if you look at as an ode to Maynards mom or something.

The song clearly recalls when Maynard presented his mother with 'Band on the Run' for her 40th birthday.

looong time lurker, first post, so feel free to bash me. But if the song really is about his mom, and part 2 is 10,000 days.... what happend in his life regarding his mom 27 years ago? Just a thought.

or what happened when he was 27 between him and his mom, what happened to his mom at her age of 27. There are so many possibilities what if by some WILD chance marie isnt for his mom since he already has a song called judith how many songs about his mom can he name, i guess the next album will have the song call keenan, yet another song for his mom. You people over analyze way too much shit, and i feel sorry for the rest of us that have to sift through it to find something useful to read, im not reeming you for being new im reeming the whole damn situation now that everyone hated the names for the new album now they love em cos they are finally accepting em. Fickle bastards. End rant peace

I never said I love the names. But I do believe they are the real titles. And in my post I alluded to the fact that it might not even be about his mom, maybe you didn't catch that. Given the limited information that we have right now, the song being about his mom would be the most likely occurrence. This is all just wild speculation, we have nothing else to do at this point, besides be quiet... and that's not going to happen.

So many songs are speculated to be about Maynard's mom it wouldn't surprise me. He seems to have very strong feelings about her.

ha i just heard 2.49 minutes of vicarious and it is tool what i was listening to, on top of that as i expected it kicks ass! it seems to end with the same feeling that lateralus finshes with. no-one will ever know what maynard is singing about, except maynard and he wont tell..... so all you can do is express how their songs appeal to you,
anyway i dont give a fuck what he is singing about i love tools music more than maynards obscure lyrics, danny is a god...

He/she heard 2 minutes 49 seconds of the theme song to Doom 3. Don't worry.

Queen Amidala,

My post was not meant to be funny, I was just trying to express that just as Maynard may have strong feelings about relatives, all (most of them) people haves strong feelings about relatives. Don't you love your parents?

indeed. however, I generally refrain from writing epic songs about them. but that's just me.

My first post - yay after all these years (been reading pretty often for like 5 years)!!! And not that it matters, but I am arguably OGT - I bought my first copy of Undertow about a week after it came out, when I was 15. So I must start off by saying sometimes you guys are absolutely brilliant!!!, and other times, you are well... But I guess that's the way the world works anyway, usually a few snyde, arrogant, cynical little bastards with seniority screwing up things for everyone else. But afterall, we will take the bad with the good. Ok I didn't mean to get off on such a tangent.

Wings for Marie! - I could not wait to post any longer after reading this. I thought this name was the most out of place, and confusing (aside from maybe "The Pot" lol) until now. But now I believe it may be, at least, a very big part of the album's theme (obviously as 10,000 Days is "Wings part 2") I think this theory is dead on, and works out perfectly. I have been going over it in my head since they put "The Tracklist" up. To me, I really like it, and now I'm absolutely convinced, without one doubt, that it's the real and final deal. Maynard writes very esoteric lyrics, that can be perceived alot of different ways. And how his lyrics have evolved, well it seems to me they've become more personal and people based. APC has so much material towards this direction. But that is afterall what we love about them so much: a constant evolution, the double entendre, the dead on artistic expression, and the complex metaphores that grow and permutate in your mind over periods of years...

This track will be nothing short of epic. It will be, in my opinion, most likely - a magnificent ode to his deceased mother, with whom, from what I've read, he had a very complicated relationship with. And now she is gone, and being how introverted he is, it's probably affected him greatly, and this is his way of getting it out and wishing her well. I'm sure the band would go for that, and I'm sure we all will as well. I am now convinced it is going to be their opus, and will inevitably touch on love, hate, religion, destruction, creation, war, people, Jung, all aspects of human nature, and so many subjects as we have come to love and expect. If this continues off of Judith and The Noose (I believe The Noose is vaguely about her, or at least some aspects of his relationship with his parents), well, he is forgiving her and paying homage to her, and she has gone to her "heaven", and now she gets those wings she was after for all those years. Now it becomes clearer, and I cannot fucking wait!!!

My opinion of course, maybe I am reading too much into it - take it all with a grain of salt, but we'll see in due time, we shall see my friends.

Wings for Marie - I like it!! No, actually I'm starting to love it. It has been a nagging itch... Thank you for the insight, that was a stroke of genious.
