View Full Version : Support for Tool on new tour.

Who do you think will support Tool on the new tour.?

Maybe something Patton related? His Peeping Tom album is out in May-ish, but I don't know if that would fit the bill. I really can't think who will.

Peeping Tom would be amazing, apart from Tool thats the other album ive been waiting for for years! Dont know how the crowd would react to pattons pop project though? What with these two albums and a new Muse one its gonna be a great month!

Yes! New Muse is going to be nuts.

I would love Peeping Tom to support, but I don't think it would happen really. I don't think the majority would really 'get it'. They might need a band to set a certain mood before they go on. Peeping Tom would be upbeat, something which Tool aren't really. They're more brooding. Saying that, Meshuggah did support, and Fantomas - so anything could happen.

Maybe they will have a thing like 311 and do TOOL day, what did those guys do? like 64 songs, I dont like their music but its still pretty cool, I can't find the acutal length of that concert.

Just found it...68 songs in a little over 5 hours

I can see why you might think that. But i love the idea of the contrast in shows. Dillinger to pump you up and then Tool to blow your mind. And Meshuggah is pretty damn aggresive as well. I've read in an interview that DEP would love to play with Tool one day.

iīve seen some video bootlegs of Meshuggah performances lately and i think i donīt need to see them live either. I love their music, but they look very moronic. Seen DEP live, but that was a couple of years ago when i liked them and i dunno... it just doesnīt appeal to me anymore... Portishead as Tool support band on the other hand.... sweet. You don't need to see them live...definately MUCH better on disc then live, but they made Tool that much more orgasmic. I'm hoping that they'll tour with someone totally different that we've never heard of or would never think to guess. All I've seen the last few weeks is how this new record is a progression in sound, hopefully that will translate into a totally different tour.

Isis have indeed been confirmed as the support band, right now there are strong rumors about Meshuggah being added to the bill.

I'm glad about Isis cause I haven't seen them yet and they are still a relatively unknown band but Meshuggah.... Don't get me wrong, I'm fucking stoked to see them live but haven't they been supporting Tool since like 1999 or something? Let's be realistic. These are bands I think that are actually considered to open for Tool on the upcoming tour, in list form, but NO ORDER.

1. Isis - rumors are huge, both bands have said publicly that they'd like to do it if their schedules match, bands are known friends.

2. The Melvins - they have already opened for Tool, but since then, the bands have become even closer friends and musical collaborators, and the Melvins have released a lot of their best material. Plus, the Melvins are now a four-piece band, and another go is possible.

3. Porcupine Tree - the band has acclaimed Porcupine Tree before, and they would fit the mold of bands who have opened for them before.

4. Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - Blair told me in an email response that the band's been listening to these guys, and I think it would really challenge Tool fans musically and experientially; however, the band puts so much into their live shows that they may not want to be an opening band.

5. Butcher - for obvious reasons; the members are great friends with the band, and Tool makes a point to advertise their music at least once a week.

6. Collide - they've been out of action for a while, but we know that the band loves them.

There are plenty of bands who could also possibly open, but this is the major list of bands. Opeth will never open for Tool.

The world of Mike Patton is an extremely busy one at the moment. I have a feeling he may turn down a European tour as he will have just finished a small stint there and will most likely get back to work recording. Fall looks better, but I'd guess maybe a half tour thing for one of his bands.

The only thing I was kinda disappointed with is the lack of vocals..

You'll learn to love that part of it. I can't wait to see them live for the first time.

forgive me, but a majority of the bands listed here, I wouldn't care to see. I'd rather see a band that peaks my interest, rather then one that gives me a reason to go to the concession stand. When I saw Tool, they were with Tomahawk. I liked one of the songs, but the rest of it was annoying. I've never been a big Mike Patton fan, so Fantomas or Tomahawk, again, would do nothing for me. (this is not disrespect to Patton, he's a brilliant man)

I however would rather see something that is, in my opinion, better. I'd rather see the Deftones. I know that's a long shot, but they at least aren't some no name band that a majority of the crowd will boo (as they did Tomahawk).

How about Alice in Chains? Aren't they doing some type of reunion tour soon? That would be fucking sick - to an extent of course.

I'd fucking kill myself if they hire that weiner from Puddle of Mudd to sing for them. I actually almost cried when I heard him on that MP3. I'm an AIC purist. <3 Layne...

So I dont think this will happen but still itd be cool...maybe nard could sing for em?

EDIT: As an AIC purist I rescind my suggestion that Maynard sing in the place of Layne Staley God rest his soul.

It'd make my life if PTree opened. I love that fucking band, and I've seen 'em live before. They put on a hell of a show. Follow that shit with TooL, I could die happy. Isis or Dredg would make me very happy as well. I don't listen to much Meshuggah. Circa Survive would be interesting as well...I just saw them, and the singer was definately on something, but it was a tight show. I doubt CS tho, no talk surrounding that match up.

Isis would be awesome, as would Meshuggah, but the latter have supported them many times before so it may be likely that they fancy a change. However there was also a post on the Isis site recnetly saying that their recording schedule wouldnt fit with supporting Tool in the summer. Deftones would be ace tho.

But in the UK we havent even got any confirmed dates yet, let alone supporting acts :(

no it ain't.

isis tour manager:

'Isis will not go on tour in June, they are in the studio during that period.
Tool invited them, but they can't come over, there's a small chance they can come over for a few selected festival dates with Tool in July, but they don't really feel like changing their recording plans. I honestly don't think they will come over, Isis always sticks to their own way of doing things...'

aaron turner:

'we are NOT playing with tool in poland.
sorry. we were offered the show, but we'll be recording at that time.
thanks for asking though...'
