View Full Version : CD Packaging

im wondering what type of packaging people think would be a cool idea for the cd to be represented in?

aenima had the multiple images case
lateralus had the multi layered liner notes and transparent black sleeve

i think they are overdue for a booklet case. folds out to have a cool mural of artwork and the cd/liner notes tucked neatly inside.

Personaly, I don't like the fold up cardboard cases. I love albums with slip covers though, really makes it feel like it's packed with art that you are only allowed to see if you buy the album. I'm not sure what they could do to out-due the Aenima and Lateralus casses (or even the albums in general), but I have faith that they will come up with something unique again.

Wrapped in the band's pubic hairs and the leaves from Maynard's grapevines after being used as makeshift toiletpaper by Blair.

Its so obvious it hurts.

Although impractical, I think a wooden case would be really cool.

I cannot even guess what the contents of the case would be, but im sure it will be splendid

Hopefully it's made of Titanium or something because all of my Tool jewel cases seem to break 10 seconds after I open them, which especially sucked for the Lenticular Aenima.

We've all been had.

No seriously, there are some really decent ideas here.
Wooden case - interesting...could work.
Invisible - Also unique. But Ive lost so many copies of Lateralus, I want to be able to find my cd's. +1 for creativity.
Peanut brittle - possibly the best idea so far. If you get stranded on a deserted island, and need food, that TOOL cd that we all keep in out back pockets could be eaten.
Titanium - Lightweight and durable. Can't argue with that.
Laserdisc - Classic. Then I could play it on my Laserdiscman.

Thanks guys. I laughed.

My guess:

A combination of transparent overlays (like Lateralus)
and the Reflective overlays (Like Mer De Noms "circle" logo)

I actually liked how the DVDs were set up and everything, but cardboard is so much easier to ruin, hence it being shit.

Maybe they can use different colored transparent plastic so they could in theory "print" on the plastic.

Just burn a copy of it and put the original on your shelf for safe-keeping.
Thats what I do with most of the CDs that I purchase.

Thats a pretty good idea. If someone wanted to take perfect care of their music, thats a good solution.

I myself will take the cd out and put it into a cd folder, so I can just put the case safely on the shelf.
