this song is just tool reflecting on the musical side of their band... they always say that the music comes first and that they focus on the music... this is just like in a pink floyd song whith a long guitar solo interlude (shine on you crazy diamond, echoes, dogs, or pigs of three different kinds) king crimson also does a lot of this (starless and bible black, red, the court of the crimson king, or pictures of a city). they had huge inerludes like this in many songs. they really focused on the music in a way that made the vocals only complement it... and tool is showing their reminence... and i think inspiration from bands like these... led zeppelin, black sabbath... all of the greats did it... and isnt tool great?
