You realize what these dates mean, right?

They toured for Lateralus the DAY it came out. Unless they're gonna preview material (which doesn't seem like their style) the album will have come out before these shows.

Unless they're gonna preview material (which doesn't seem like their style) the album will have come out before these shows.Given the success rate of the Tool tapers out there and their disdain for having stuff "leak" to the 'net hours after they walk off the stage, I think it's safe to assume they won't play anything from the new album if it hasn't been released.

At the same time ... If you're not going to be promoting a new album, why bother? Looks like early- to mid-April is going to be the release date.

Bands don't have to have material out to play a show. When Tool played in '99 there wasn't a new record to promote. This is a warm-up show, but I'm sure they'll play some new stuff. The album will not be out by then.

I am very excited to see what kind of stage set-up they will use. Both Tool and APC have had some interesting ones, so I am sure they will come up with somthing different. Maybe they will all be inside shadow boxes, like Maynard was on the last APC tour. I doubt it though, they will do something new and creative.

Tool's headlining set is scheduled to cap off the weekend as the finale to Sunday night's show, the Times reports. Tool, who'd rocked the crowd during the inaugural Coachella back in 1999, have not performed live in the United States since 2002, when the band toured with Mike Patton's Tomahawk. At present, the Maynard James Keenan-fronted band is mixing its forthcoming album — Tool's first since 2001's Lateralus. Photos taken during the recording of the LP, which were posted on guitarist Adam Jones' online blog, showed that Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme, Melvins guitarist King Buzzo and Isis frontman Aaron Turner had stopped into the studio during the sessions. It's not yet known whether they'll be appearing on the album, which will arrive in stores in late April or early May.

But it gets stupidly cold out there at night. Oh yeah get ready to be around a bunch of Emo fags too.

Pumpkins reunion rumor is smashed

Greg Kot
Published January 27, 2006

A San Diego alternative rock station announced that the Smashing Pumpkins would reunite on the second day of the Coachella music festival in California in April, then had to take it all back in an on-air announcement Thursday.

"We got duped. They're not doing it," said 91-X (XTRA-FM) music director Marco Collins, who said he spoke to singer Billy Corgan's label, Reprise Records. "Reprise said that for whatever reason Billy backed out of it."

A Reprise spokesman said, "We never knew they were in to back out."

Corgan could not be reached for comment, but rumors about the band's reappearance have abounded since the singer announced last summer that he intended to "renew and revive the Smashing Pumpkins." Stories of the band's rumored Coachella appearance have circulated on the Internet and have been published in NME, a British music magazine.

The lineup for the April 29-30 festival will be announced Monday, but Collins said it won't include the Pumpkins. "This info is everywhere, even in the guise of a [concert promoter] press release, and I feel like an idiot for believing it," he said.

"3. Why GOD why? When there are TONS better choices to headline - ones that haven't been before.

ie

Bowie
Prince
REM

come to mind."

and:

"I went to go check out Tool on iTunes to give them a fair shake. WTF? i Tunes doesn't have a single Tool song...yet they have Korn, Mudvayne. (So you're right, I guess they are not in the same league.) If anyone knows where I could listen to Tool without having to buy Tool, let me know. I'm still willing to try. Gracias."

Not in the same league as Korn or Mudvayne, hahahahahaha.

go to coachella. it's amazing. It's a festival that does not cater to a particularly scene (although they slightly favor the indie scene). There is a lot of variety, usually good acts and some not so good acts. Yeah so maybe some of the bands suck, but that's a good thing. You only get to watch about 10 full sets per day. So let's say as long as there are 13 bands you like (to account for a couple of likely scheduling conflicts), then it's perfect. Plus there are always stages you are going to stumble into and go who the fuck is this?!
Also if you are going to go to Coachella just for tool, i highly recommend getting there early. There are many amazing artists playing and you'll be doing yourself a favor to keep an open mind and appreciate the music. The most memorable performances are sometimes by artists you have never heard of. The atmosphere is what makes coachella special, not the bands that are playing (but it helps--especially tool)...
Keep in mind there is usually about a 15-30 min delay between artists.

one of two options.
1. 10:30 to 11:40 or something close to that (more likely)
2. 9:00-10:15 or so (like NIN did last year-but I think they had to get out a little early)

Also massive attack is going to be playing directly before tool, according to their press release.

Nice, so it will be a great time for the tool experience I was hointg they would play at night; I mean the lights and projectors would look rather bleek and contrasting in the day. Massive attaks is a great add, I only really like one song (Poloroid girl) but it would defintley make a great venue for the TOOL transition.
I hope they don't cut out the classics from Aenima on the Lateralus tour at coachella.

Im probobaly alone, but I want the classic Lateralus stuff, and the album to release after coachella and start up a new when ever their overseas crap is done and see them then. Then I could experience both, I was too young (read:poor) for the Lateralus tour.
