View Full Version : Who here will WAIT to buy the new album?

CCD

I still like Tool, but their music has lost some of the impact it once had for me. As a result, I won't be buying the CD on the day it comes out, and instead I will wait to hear reviews to get an idea of whether it would be worth it.

Who's with me?

Please remember that childish fanboy insults make kitty cry.

Its because they take SO damn long to release albums.

I mean it ends up being worth the wait, but geez.. you start getting tired of listening to their "new stuff" after a while, so then you revert to the "old stuff" for a while, and then by the time that stuff wears off again, you have to re-revert to the "New stuff" which by then is "old stuff".. then you have to wait 4 years for any SIGN of anything new, so you end up pretty exasperated. I'm sure the new album will be groundbreaking shit, but come on... fans get bored. Kind of puts a whole new perspective on "The Patient", eh?

I'll be sitting outside Best Buy at 10am (which is when they open) to buy it on release day. I probably won't download the leak (I've yet to download any leaked albums), but I did have a Schism promo single about a week before Lateralus was released. :)

My first listen will be on some decent headphones at work.

yea i think headphones are the way to go, however, i've got access to a full on music hall at my university, me and andyDV will be hitting that up, all things considered of course, but it'd be awesome to hear it for the first time in a nicely tuned music hall

my friend got a studio copy of lateralus a week before it came out, and she put it on a tape for me which i listened to over and over again, then of course the minute the album came out i bought it...

Tool is such an amazing band that im not gonna be a cheap fuck and not buy the fucken album. I mean whats 15 bucks for hours and hours of entertainment (maybe entertainment isnt the right word, maybe incredible music is more fitting)

I probably won't download the leaks cuz I wanna listen to the album how it was meant to be listened to, however i did download a few APC 13th Step Leaks, but APC is no where near Tool in my opinion

I can't wait for the day the album comes out, im gonna sit down, smoke a little and just close my eyes and let the music take me where it needs to take me

Does Tool ever have official preorders?

If not I'll either preorder from a different site OR dress up as a Viking, run down to Target, yell "TOOL TOOL TOOL!" really loudly to the CD section.
Buy it normally.
Then run back to my house yelling "TOOL TOOL TOOL!" really loudly.

I'd imagine the album won't leak till very close to the release date anyhow. I had Schism pretty early on though.

Anyhow, I'm really, really going to try not to download it when it leaks (though I'll be buying it regardless). But we'll see. This is one album I really want to hear as a completed product rather than dodgy mp3s. But I can see my curiousity getting the better of me.

Like 'Lateralus' i'll download the single, and buy the album (Sunday in Australia) as soon as it comes out. I am expecting some cool cover design, like Lateralus and Aenima, that always makes buying it more worthwhile, they put a bit more effort into it than other bands.

I'm still a huge Tool fan but Lateralus was kind of a disappointment for me after the near perfect Aenima. Still though, as a disappointment it is far better than nearly all music I have tried in the 4-5 years from Aenima to Lateralus and the 5 years from Lateralus till this one.

I am going to buy it.

Even without the internet hype, I would still be getting it on the day of release - TOOL have made two albums that are up there with the best, in my opinion. I await their next creation eagerly.

EDIT: For those who are thinking of downloading... Please have a little patience and wait to buy it. You will enjoy it much more when you have artwork to look through, and the general feeling that this music is somthing you own. Downloading it will take that feeling away from you.

Who cares what critics think? Their opinion is worth no more than mine or yours. If you love Tool's music and the new single, than buy the new album. Honestly, chances are, you won't be dissapointed. And if you think the new album is bad, than you have every right to bitch about it on here. Just, don't buy an album based off of reviews. Most critics flock together anyway (St. Anger anyone? And they were pretty off on that album too).

i'll go on my lunchtime everyday on the week previous to the release date to "the knife" record store, which is located at about 200 mts. from my office, and usually starts selling albums a few days prior to the release date.

Well, yes, there are, but he wasn't saying that he didn't like it. He said that it wasn't as good as Aenima... which is probably true. I'm fortunate, because I'm a relative newbie who get into Tool when Lateralus came out. I got to listen to Aenima afterwards and have my mind blown all over again.

Although Undertow didn't blow my mind the way those other two albums did... not at all.

As far as the leak, if my friends at school don't download, I might not. If I hear people describing songs, I'll have to listen. Do you remember the Frances the Mute leak? That one was shit quality.
Yeah, but that had nothing to do with the artwork....

That´s right, the artwork is shit too. Or what do you mean?

Personally, as cool as the artwork may or may not be, it makes absolutely no difference to how the CD sounds, so why wait to listen to it?

I disagree with you on this. While a lot of artwork that comes with cd's is just photos of the band or other such shit, Aenima and Lateralus' artwork contribute a lot. Especially Lateralus, the art can help get you into the mindframe of the cd and more geared up to take in what you're about to hear.

Laugh at me again and I'll report every store in Athens for selling CDs early. :-P

I still like Tool, but their music has lost some of the impact it once had for me. As a result, I won't be buying the CD on the day it comes out, and instead I will wait to hear reviews to get an idea of whether it would be worth it.

Who's with me?

Why would you wanna listen to what reporters say about music? What the hell do they now?

I´d go and strangle Charlie, that little bitch.

If Charlie even ran a Tool related factory, it would probably be some kind of shadow version of him with no skin, a third eye, and some weird stuff growing all over him. I don't think you'd want to get that close.

i realized that it's going to be hard to wait till 3th.. i don't know, hearing the single before the album wouldn't ruin the first album listening too much.. i just should have something to do before tha release date :/

Im going to buy the album on the first day it is released, and probably a copy for my girlfriend, go home and listen to it. Why? Because it's a Tool album. Fuck what reviews it gets, it's going to be the best album released this year, because it's a Tool album! There's no way it's going to suck, BECAUSE IT'S A TOOL ALBUM! Don't fucking download it and then not buy it, it's so disrespectful. Remember why you liked this band in the first place, they made music interesting again. They wont let you down.

Which means I'm hoping for one of those "midnight opening" things.

Wait for reviews? The best review comes from you're own ears.

Cheers to everyone who is refusing to download a leaked album!! I'll be waiting outside my local best buys at 10 am/ May 2nd like a junkie waiting for a fix.

I too will download the single, but wait for the album because:

1. I want to digest the artwork and the music together.

2. 56k modems are terrible.

I will buy it the second it comes out. Then I will place the disc in a super heated oven until it melts. I'll funnel the melted plastic into a syringe and inject it into my veins.

My blood will flow with TOOL.

Then I'll go rebuy it so I can listen to it.

Yeah, I'll definitely buy it the day it comes out. If it leaks, I'm NOT listening to it before then. I just love the anticipation and excitement of busting open a new CD and thumbing through the booklet while blasting it on my stereo too much. It's been forever since I was this excited about a new album!! After hearing Vicarious, I'm even more giddy/excited/busting!!! And OMG I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE TOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!
