Ok so we know that the live DVD is not going to be your usual 'band playing live' DVD, but what do we think/hope this DVD is going to be?

I hope for footage from a few different shows during the end of the lateralus tour, especially when they had the massive Alex Grey backdrops.

Did anyone witness those shows with those particular backdrops? And did they notice any cameras?

Anticipation to the max.

I saw the second to last show in Reno where they used those backdrops. It was pretty amazing, better than the other two times I had seen them earlier on the tour. They also played Third Eye and Faaip de Oiad. I missed Faaip though, damn live hidden track, so I hope that shows up somewhere on the dvd. I've got no idea what to expect from the dvd though, I'm just looking forward to it.

Thanks. I wasn't really looking, but I remember seeing a few tripods setup that looked like cameras. It was the best show of the 4 I've seen, so hopefully they got it on tape. The 'nard was pretty talkative that night too, mad quite a few funny quips that night.

Has anyone got the Almost Skate DVD Almost Round 3? It's a 2 disc DVD and 1 disc is just a DVD-R with "Almost Round 3" written on it in marker pen. It says something like "We pirated this so you dont have to.". When you play it its just been filmed from the back of the cinema during the premier. Its pretty funny.

I want at least one whole live set, and no shitty artistic dodgy camera angles either, I want to see the band, the stage, the props and the crowd.

If they have more, it would be cool to see some more live footage from the same, or other tours in earlier years, I can't imagine Tool doing anything worth watching backstage so I guess they could leave that out..

Morrisseys live DVD had another live set in the Extras with a different atmosphere to it. I thought that was a good idea.

Are you calling me a Nobody?!

Mr. Frankly, i dont think theyll prioritize(is this correct spelled?) "that shit" since they always put their music in the center and feel that anything relating the members are unrelevant. BUT, since we all have been haning around and discussing EVERY SINGLE progress, not to mention "subliminal messages" from Blair i would LOVE to see them in the prosess of recording the new album...

...and i could pay triple price to hear Adam say "HAHA, look guys... Now these fuckers at toolshed thinks we have encoded the realease date in the mixtable-picture!!"

I hope they show plenty of the band while playing the songs. And I hope that they don't switch cameras every 1.2 seconds. I can't stand videos where they have 239 cameras and switch between each one every split second.. Usually, the worse the band, the more "pop" the music, etc., the more often they switch the cameras in order to keep the viewer in a constant state of shock, constantly stimulating them so they get that surprise reaction. They use this during TV commercials, and TV shows. I think it's used to make up for bad material.

The Cream reunion was good, I think, in this respect.

on these last songs did they really mix up the set lists or was it similar every show?

I have a porn DVD that is interactive in that you can choose the angle from which you want to view a given scene, and you can even switch to different views as the scene plays. It would be pretty cool if the live DVD was like this and you could view the whole stage if you wanted, or switch to just Danny or Adam, or whatever other view.

I'm also hoping for this feature. But thinking along the lines of them not wanting to stress any one member of the band I'd have to guess they wouldn't want to do that. Hell I'd be staring at Danny for the whole show.

I actually found a good quality bootleg video of one of the Lateralus tour shows (before the Grey anatomy backdrops) where they were using Osseus Labrynt on stage during a couple songs. At one point the girl stands right in front of Adam with her vag pointing at his face. Another part has them hanging from rafters and moving their arms like bat wings. This was quite a good set; they played the Salival versions of Third Eye and Pushit which was awesome. When I saw them at Key Arena in Seattle they didn't play either one.

Of all the bootlegs I've seen of their shows this one is definetely the best quality video+sound overall. The person filming it has a great vantage point too. Most clear footage of Danny I've seen for sure. Watching him play The Grudge is simply mind blowing. Its like he could be reading a book and fucking a chick at the same time; he makes it look that fluid and simple.

Good question. No one seems to know, but hopefully "soon". Seems like it would make sense for it to come out before the new album, but that seems unlikely at this point.

Moments from the Lateralus tour I can't wait to relive: when the first backdrop falls open during The Grudge and when the heart starts beating before Third Eye.

I've seen like four. Most of were either too far away or blurry to see anything. One was okay, with a few good closeups and steady camera, but it pretty much spent the whole time on Adam or Maynard, and I wanted to see more of the band, espicially Danny on some of the more intesive songs

Hopefully I can finally get a real answer here. Does anyone know what the 7 sided star is a symbol for? The only thing i could find that looked exactly like that one was the symbol for the whore of Babylon.. which doesn’t really fit into the theme of the concert.

The other somewhat more related bit of information i found was an Elvin or faerie star which would fit more inline with the philosophy of tool but, the symbol for the Elvin star doesn’t look the same.

Has anyone researched it more than I have?

That's massive, by the time I download all of that the DVD would've been released, thanks for the info though, I've never seen those backdrops, the only thing I've seen is the 3 screens, but then again I've only downloaded a couple of single vids. The Patient would be one and those back drops don't drop until the end of the show. So I guess I'll have to wait.

From Wiki:

""There are two kinds of heptagram:

Acute heptagram, the {7/3} star polygon.
Obtuse heptagram, the {7/2} star polygon.

The acute heptagram is known as the Elven Star or Fairy Star, a sacred symbol to Wiccans who follow the Faery tradition. Similarly, it has been adopted as an identifier by members of the Otherkin subculture. Blue Star Wicca also uses the symbol, where it is referred to simply as a septagram. The acute heptagram is also a symbol of magickal power in other Pagan religions.

The obtuse heptagram was used as a symbol in the Kabbalah, and later by Aleister Crowley and the Ordo Templi Orientis where it was known as the Star (or Seal) of Babylon."

Knowing the influences and interest of the band especially the latter one hits the spot really nicely. And i wouldn't say the first one would differ that much from their mindset either...

Thanks for the update...

All I mean is that I don't mind waiting a little while longer for Tool to release a live dvd. That particular Zeppelin dvd is great because it features footage from many different shows and goes for over 5 hours. As long as Tool keep making music and tour, I'm happy with that - they can release a great live dvd when they eventually retire etc.

Yes, I know, it would be good to have a live dvd of their Lateralus shows but again, I'm sure something awesome will be released later on... plus, I'm expecting that the band would want to put in a lot of effort for the dvd to ensure it's of great quality and not just another "band playing live" dvd that they have spoken about previously...

i just finished watching a bootleg from the 11-16-2002 Oklahoma show which is in really decent quality, especially the audio. Got it via eMule. That program seems not to be very popular in the states though but i highly recommend to check it out. It uses the eDonkey network and for proper functionality broadband internet access (w/ flatrate) is required. It also takes some time to configure, however it will pay out as you´ll find almost everything you want (in files).

That bootleg´s filename: "Tool.-.2002-11-16.Oklahoma.[audio.remastered].Pt1-badur.mpg" & "Tool - Live - 16-11-2002 - Oklahoma Pt2.mpg"

you just have to dig into configuration of that bastard. took me about an hour or so, now i have an average ~90KB/s downstream. Download rate depends greatly on how much stuff you´re leeching. The single file may be slow but when you add em all together... It´s definitely worth it. I even found a low quality (cellphone cam or so) video lesson of Justin sitting on a couch showing the Schism main riff.
