"Q101 here in chicago has told everyone on the air to brace for what could be a shot in the arm for rock music, announced tomorrow on WGN morning news, with billys favorite news anchor Larry Potash at his side, (haha) Billy will be performing, and much like the announcement to break up the pumpkins, tomorrows suprise will also be revealed on WGN morning news. Fans hope for the best, but whatever he suprises us with, it should surely light a fire under rock music's fat pathetic lazy ass. That and new TOOL in January 06, which insiders say is the end all prog metal masterpiece...yeah yeah...so could it be folks, the return of SP as we once knew it?? Or something new altogether.. We'll see tomorrow."

"That and new TOOL in January 06, which insiders say is the end all prog metal masterpiece."

That wording confused me a bit. Did they mean that the new Tool album will be unbeatable prog metal?...Therefore being the masterpiece ending any possibilities of making prog metal better than it?

EDIT: By the way, fantastic thread, Ryan. You are really good with news.

Q101 is by far the worst radio station I have ever heard. All they do is play three, two minute long punk/emo songs then go to ten minutes of lame commercials, then repeat.

This is what I seriously hope, just for the fucking hilarity of the situation. I hope Tool broke up two years ago and all of this is a big lie.

Spring = April 1st.

God that would be funny.

May be it has to do something with this (distortiononline.com)

- The soundboard image from 9-26-05 has changed! Originally, this is where the 1-17 date came from. Now it seems to represent two dates: 1-16-06, and 4-4-06! Could this be the release dates for the Live DVD and the new album? Let's hope! (Thanks OGT) -EyeChakra

Not really. If you think about it, the stickers said "RELEASE", not CD, not DVD. It could mean the DVD, and the CD is coming out January? Just a thought.

If there were a major release planned for January, we'd know it by now. Most likely the first radio single will be distributed for the 16-Jan-2006 date, and the album release will be 04-Apr-2006.

Live DVD release around the same time as the Alex Grey book hits the shelves in June 2006 maybe?

there is no way the album is coming out in january. you cannot just put an album on the shelves and expect it to sell without announcing it ahead of time.

so uh yeah its the next day and NOBODY has any news or an update? and i think we all should know from common sense tat the album will not be out in january. And havent we heard Blair say that the DVD will MOST LIKELY come after the album? All these questions and so little answers. It's getting tiresome.

Once we get word of a single being released then we can figure out when the album is most likely going to come out. If the single hits airwaves in march then i say mid april. If the single hits airwave sin april then we got a new album in may.

in addition, wasn't Danny saying something about a tour in summer 06? so this all comes together if you think about it. tool will probably release the new album between april-june.

Plus we all know tool loves pushing back release dates . LAteralus was supposed to come out april 17th mjks bday but it got pushed back a whole month. So only time will tell. Just keep hoping a single gets released soon.

clarity.

Actually, with everything said in the first post (especially coming from a radio station), the most likely thing would be the new single coming out. That makes a lot of sense, when you think about it...

How long do singles usually play before the album is released?

Usually like a month to a month and a half.

It sounded like it'd be talk about a single too...Seems kind of early for a single though...Maybe not.

Not too early at all. If they're mixing right now, that gives them almost an entire month to get the first single done and distributed to radio stations. Plenty of time... Although if singles are usually on the air a month or so before the release, that doesn't work too well with the spring release. I dunno...

It's been said before but I'm tipping January 17th is either nothing or the day Blair finally announces 'something' about the new album, whether it's true or false. Maybe an album title. Then, if it is false, just like Lateralus 5 years ago, he will announce the truth and in April we will get a new album and the band will finally hit the road again...

There will be no live dvd release. I reckon they will just keep the footage of the last 6 shows they did and record their new shows later on when they are playing new material/songs and, eventually, the band will release a live dvd similar to Led Zeppelin's live dvd released a few years ago, which will feature footage from many different shows, covering lots of different material and songs etc.

Merry Xmas everybody!!

don't forget that danny said the live dvd would be out "soon" during the recent chat.

Danny also said earlier in 2004 that the band was looking to release the dvd "sometime in the summer", as in July-August-ish of that year, but nothing has come of it...

I also remember Blair saying that the band had all the footage for the six shows yet it was just a matter of when it could all be edited/produced. If they were working/focusing on the live dvd right now, I'm sure we would have heard at least one small thing about it. Blair said he did not know when it will be released. So I would take Danny's "soon" to mean "sometime in the future it will happen..."

Sure, a live dvd form last tour would be great right now but they've just released Lateralus on vinyl, some signed, as well as the Schism/Parabola dvds and are expected to release their new album in 'spring'. I just can't see another Tool release, such as the live dvd, any time soon. The band was concerned about releasing the live dvd originally somewhat because the didn't want too many Tool releases in too short a time period. Plus the live dvd will take some work if the artwork/quality of the new singles on dvd is anything to go by...

The new album should satisfy most people for the time being... enjoy!

The Smashing Pumpkins will not reunite, and if they do, it'll be some shitty rehash of them, with Billy and Jimmy being the only returning members. I honestly think the Smashing Pumpkins "reunion" was a ploy by Billy Corgan to get people to buy his solo album (which he promptly released right after making the statement that he "wanted his Pumpkins back."

I love The Smashing Pumpkins but I can't see this reunion happening any time soon.

I'd love to see myself wrong though.
