I believe that 'jimmy' is about Maynard at the age of 11, which is the age that he and his sister supposedly left his home. Maynard, now an adult, looks back at this situation and feels anger towards his parent(s)"What was it like to see you faced with your own stability, then suddenly look away, leaving you with the dead and hopeless?" but yet, also wishs that he could return to his home and reclaim the moments that he lost by leaving and basically faces that 'glowing child' inside of him that still wishes he was back at home. I relate to this song very because my mom and I left my father when I was 9 months old and my mom divorced my father when I was 11 months old and every so often, I think about the situation and wish that I could see him and kind of gain that part of my father that I had lost. I do not wish to meet him much anymore because he is in prison, but every so often, there's that 'what if' that appears.
