This song makes me think of hinduism. Maynard talks about crucifying his ego which to hindu's would mean to rid of all desires. Hindus also believe that all is one through brahman , meaning there is what is reality, and what is perceived. Ignorance being the gap between the two. I believe maynard has become annoyed by this ignorance and wants to see it come to an end before he "pines away". I know for a fact maynard isn't hindu but i think he has used some of their terminology (thinking) in this song (maybe has some respect for the religion, as do i). he's just a man who has a good sociological view on the world and wants to see some good come of everything, because he believes it's possible, if everyone just opens their eyes and takes a step back for one moment.
