Lateral = sideways... so... perhaps... it means something like beside others?... Or something like ( HOW THE HELL DO I HAVE TO KNOW) ... sideways... that they wanted to be different? (Sideways)

I tried once searching the internet for Lateralus. Alot of sites came up, one of them about a thing called the Quabala. The Quabala is a system that discribes the nature of humean thoughts(abit like tarot). The site claimed that the word Lateralus was another word for Quabala. Maybe that´s the solution.
