here in NZ i noticed that record stores have dropped the price of both lateralus and aenima to just $15. usually they are $30. i was wondering if the older albums would be sold at half price because the new album is coming out soon?

remember here in NZ record stores seem to believe the album is or was coming out on september 19th. im not sure whats going on here, tool seem to still be recording, but maybe they are finished.

anyway, do stores usually lower cd prices when the new one is coming out soon?

I don't know about CDs, but they do lower prices on a lot of other things when the next 'whatever' comes out. Of course, I'm drawing a blank right now for any examples. It seems plausable, though.

I've noticed it in Sam Goody and places like that. Best Buy will sometimes do it as well.

Yea they do. Like for example I remember that when one of 50 cent Cd's came out best buy had everything connected with him on sale...so yea we do that in the states too

It is possable for them to do that though i haven't noticed a price drop resently unless it happened in the past week or so here in the usa. in best buy lateralus and aenima have been i beleave about 14.99 for aenima and a bit more for lateralus and in borders lateralus was like 20 dollers still (basic cost for a cd here in usa most of the time)

this seems kind of odd, when i got to the best buy near my house all the tool albums are like 13.99 and they always have been, i never noticed a change in price, this could be true but they dont do it where i live :(

it says i live in new zealand under my location, as well as me mentioning it about 3 times in this thread. but i guess some americans know nothing outside of their own country and culture.

Only if there is a surplus, otherwise no.

I got my Lateralus from good old The Warehouse for $19.95 a year or two ago. There are only 2 places in nz that i trust for cheap cds... the other one is Real Groovy

Lateralus was 13.99 at Best Buy like triad said, but the best buy out here drops the CDs down to 9.99$ of all the albums by that band releasing a new one, and the new one.

I got Lateralus new for $6 from a local store, so you're all getting ripped off. (jk)

Well, I realized it and while I didn't know the average price for CDs there, I assumed $30 was normal.

As for the price drop, I have no knowledge to contribute.

$30 for a cd?

I payed £10 for all my Tool albums, which is almost $20.

We're being ripped off.

When the X-Files Mythology DVD "Abduction" came out, all the X-Files Season DVDs went down from $100 to $50 at Best Buy. I was like FUCKING SWEET. I shortly found out that it was only for a limited time. :( I was sad that I would have to pay $100 again, but thankfully there are more Mythology DVDs coming out, like the "Black Oil" one that just came out.

I barely get to go to Best Buy though, being as I live where the closest one is 50 miles away in Vegas.

Lateralus was $18.99 at a Borders in Illinois in 2003. Ænima was probably $16.99 here in Ohio (I don't remember), Undertow was I think $13.99 or so and Opiate was I believe $11.99. Haven't seen those prices change.

your £10 is about equal to NZD$30... Why is it called a pound anyway, last time i weighed a pound note it didnt even come close to an ounce, let alone a pound... Crazy brits

I remember Best Buy putting SOAD's, Audioslave's, and NIN"s albums on sale within a few weeks of their new stuff this summer, maybe the samething is going on.

You realize that the brits don't even use the same weight system that americans use. So to them, a pound is not a unit in measurement. If I'm not mistaken they would use Kilos.

Yeah, unlike us Americans, Brit's use systems that ACTUALLY MAKE SENSE

fuck this thread is the biggest pile of shit ever,

to change the direction slightly, here in NEW ZEALAND, last night the music tv channel C4 had a show called amped, and on it the host said the new tool album is coming out in october.

the CD prices may be dropping down here in the southern hemisphere (i'm in aus) but I went to the record store to check on the price of Lateralus Vinyl and they said 70 bucks ! that's as shitty as the day salival was released down here for $99.95 - fucking rip-off (so I went halves with a friend)

I got my Lateralus and Aenima 24USD and Undertow 15USD

It's coming October 25. my birthday's eve =P

08-21-2005, 10:42 PM
sweet, that's 5 days after my birthday, and anyways, this thread is pretty stupid so I suggest someone make a another thread with some valid info concerning the next Tool release. Late October does make sense for a release, perfect sense i might add. January or February of next year is ridiculous (sp). In they're not done recording now they will be finishing within a few weeks and the cd can be mixed, packaged and shipped so that I can steal it *cough* and listen to it in the comfort of my cardboard shack/ POS house.

it makes sense to me, if s ti N Kfizt says its coming out on october 25th, then its coming out on october 25th.

problem is gooding, it makes sense that it would come out in late october, but unfortunatly tools release patterns dont follow logical sense. it would make sense that the live dvd was put out 2 years ago, but its still not here.

as for the lateralus vinyl being AUS$70, thats bad news, its probably gonna be $90 here in NZ, i might have to miss out on it as im broke, i was hoping it would be $50 or $60. it comes out tommorow so i might go check it out.

im guessing the rumor mill. or toolband.

lol, who cares about a vinyl anyway. Vinyls are neat but to me if I already have an album twice on cd cause my old old guitarist who was a douchbag (he didn't have the cd's, he didn't know our songs) borrowed it while attemping to learn schism and failed in the process, lmao and scratched the shit out of it. So I purchased a new one. I don't think I will spend 50 bucks or more on a vinyl unless I am given a discount or the vinyl for free.

wtf? 19-20$ is ridiculous for a cd, there is an fye in the mall over here where the best buy is, and i see people going in there and buying cd's, i laugh cuz the best buy is a few setps away , its either they dont know they can get cd's cheaper in best buy or they are just lazy....

Borders is usually expensive when it comes to popular CDs but the other day I did manage to find a new one and a rare one both on sale ...$12 and $14...they also have a better music DVD collection than Best Buy, but that's the only real advantage.
