So www.distortiononline.com has that big database of nearly every show Tool has done, and most of those have the setlists with them. Apparently they've played Disgustipated live three times, the last time being in San Fransisco in 1994. I wanted to look these shows up but the tour reviews here only go back to '95. Is there anyone out there who might've been to one of these three shows that can remember anything about it, cuz I'm pretty curious how they would pull something like that off...

I wasn't at any of those shows, but I did download a live version of Disgustipated a whiles back. It was labeled 'London 7.24.94', and sure enough, when I went to that webpage you mentioned (which is a good page, from what I saw at first glance) they had listed a performance of Disgustipated in London on that very date.
So I suppose the file I have is a genuine recording, is what I'm getting at... In any case, here's what it sounds like:
The first half consists of Adam's standard guitar effects for when he wants to (and does) create creepy noises -the feedback, the wining, the sliding crunchy sounds, the whole bit. At the same time, Danny is playing what sounds like the drumming heard in the beginning of Third Eye (from like 1:00 to 2:10)... Come to think of it, upon a second listen the guitar effects are fairly similar, too. A thought -- perhaps this was the inspiration or a dry run for the intro to Third Eye? Just a thought. If anyone else has this file, try comparing them, and post what you think. I'd be interested in reading other people's opinions.
Also, in the first half we hear Maynard shouting some things, fairly inaudibly and with a great deal of echo... I could make out phrases like "...cannot judge you" and "...no one can touch him." This whole first half doesn't really sound like the album version at all.
Finally, about halfway through, Maynard finally starts repeating "This is necessary... This is necessary... Life feeds on life feeds on life feeds on life..." The guitars have the same effects as in the first half, except this time Adam's just going nuts with it. And the drums sound even more like those in Third Eye...
In conclusion, it sounds very much unlike the album version. It's more of a creepy and angry jam than anything.

I think you can download a live mp3 of 'Disgustipated'. I managed to locate and download one from audiogalaxy, and it sure enough sounded like Tool and there were chants of 'This is necessary...' and so forth. It comes across as a more electronic piece in the vain of 'Merkarba' than the percussive head-f*ck of the Undertow version. However, it is quite possible that I downloaded someone else covering Tool... but that seems unlikely for a piece like 'Disgustipated'.

A band (I don't remember right off hand) did cover "Disgustipated" on the Tribute To Tool disc, which was more of an electronic/industrial/darkwave tribute. So if it was anything electronic or darkwave, it was probably that band. I highly doubt it though. I would love to see Disgustipated live.

Someone said that it's Paul yelling random shit in that Disgustipated performance, as he usually did at shows. Sounds like Maynard to me, though.

They've also performed Maynard's Dick into Disgustipated in '92. Too bad the recording is shit-poor, though.

I just downloaded it.. it's crazy.. I can't understand what he's saying at first.. but eventually says "THIS IS NECESSARY!!" really loud.. he doesnt say it repeatedly.. twice.. then life feeds on life.. it's just weird.

I have the same on as Nymbus I think

i'd be cool to have maynard shooting in the air with a gun...
(i don't like guns, but maynard scared of it and the noise would make a great impression i suppose)

[...] "We were asked to do an anti-vivisection show and weíre not anti-vivisection," Jones says. "If using an animal will help solve AIDS or any other disease that kills people, then go for it. Anyway, it was supposed to be an acoustic show and lots of different bands like Alice In Chains, Rage Against The Machine and Porno For Pyros played. We got out and Maynard just sang, 'This is necessary!' while us and the Rollins Band smashed 30 guitars and played these tribal beats and Maynard shot off a shotgun. We just felt like doing a studio version of it. We'd never even rehearsed it before. We just got up and went for it. No one really got it, you know what I mean? It was anti-anti-vivisection. When we did it live it went for 20 minutes. It seemed like two. It was really fun. We have it on videotape." [...]

I've always viewed this "song" as a retort the vegetarian philosopy. Plants are alive, so get over it fucker! "Let the rabbits wear glasses, they have a light, they have a consciencesness", is nothing short of hilarious. Ah, when good ideals go bad! Life isn't pretty always, it's not supposed to be. There’s this lady up here where I work that’s always clamoring on about the harmonic convergence and how if everyone would just live a certain way, then the world would be perfect. Well I don’t believe in that shit. The world is perfect, it is comprised of all things and some people just don’t want to see or experience all of it. They prefer to hang out in their little corner and say things like “If everyone was like me the world would be perfect. Fuckers.

I love you thedave...

No seriously, I have a very similar philosophy in life. Anyway Disgustipated is an excellent song no matter how you interpret it, does anyone know where I can download the live version. I guess I could probably find it on Kazaa or Direct Connect.
