im a little rusty about this, but in the 1500s didnt the baptist church form from the catholic churuch, causing a schism? i think it could be about that, but im just a n00b.

didnt every christian denomination branch off of the catholic church? was baptist the first one to do it?

No, I think it was Martin Luther who first broke away, that is why you have Lutherans. The King of England was next (you know the story, King Henry VIII couldn't get the pope to give him a divorce so he said screw you I'll create my own religion) That was the protestants (protest - ants). Not exactly sure how the Baptists (Shiite Christians) came along.
