What do you think Tool's new equipment will be? I've heard rumors about Adam maybe switching to an SG instead of the Custom Les Paul, but it is doubtful, seeing as his Les Paul gives him that Tool-ish tone. Danny will be switch drum sets, to some crazy looking set. What brands do you drummers think he will be playing? Plus he will probably update on his synth. I haven't heard anything about Justin, but I think he will use more effects on this album. I don't know anything about Maynard as far as mics, and amps go. As far as what we do know, it will be a heavier album. So I predict ultra-distorted guitar riffs, crazy-fast drum beats, rumbling bass parts, and switching between melodic singing, and ticks and leeches type screaming

Anyways, what are your thoughts on what their new equipment will be?

Danny got some new neato kit...Im not a drummer, so I dont know the details.

And Adam uses an SG durring alot of his recording. No big change there.

He used an SG during recording? News to me.
What songs did he put down the LP down for in favor of an SG?

Yeah, same here. But more importantly, what SG would he put his Les Paul down for?

from Guitar Player June 2001

GP: Are you still using Gibsons?

JONES: I have some Gibson silverburst Les Paul Customs--they made
those guitars from '79 to '81--and I dedicate one for the tuned down
songs. When we're recording, I'll use a Gibson SG if I want to play
something softer.

so I guess not alot...I was mistaken

Still I don't think you can beat the LP. I hope they stick with the body painting this next tour.

Danny will be playing those solid brass drums he just got I believe. I think they'll sound alot different then what we've heard previously.

I thought I heard that he just got them... like within the past year. There's a few pictures of them over at drummerworld. He's also using them in the video where he's playing along to Lateralus.

Yes, those. (Awesome vid, btw.) I thought those were the drums he always used. I may be wrong.

where you getting this info Mr Hix?

Mainly from sites on the internet, interviews, and rumors. If anything is a rumor I identified it as a rumor. If I ever forgot to do that, I appologize and will fix it.

Fruit of the Loom, Hanes, or Jockey? Ohhh. Or maybe they'll all wear G-strings and we can flaunt our dollar bills at them too? I wonder if they'll provide personal lap dances for $20. *

Maynard is obviously a Fruit of the loom kind of guy.. Although the prospect of a g-string sounds very likely.. He likes to flaunt what he's got..

Maynard is more of a diaper or butt-neckid guy

I see Maynard blowing a duck whistle, I see Danny on the bongo drums, I see Adam with a ukulele and finally Justin with a banjo.

Is that alien holding a pie?

ARMZ
03-13-2005, 08:20 AM
No, although it does look like a pie now that you mentioned it. It's a crop circle that was spotted from the air a few years ago, the 'pie' is a disc that contained information which when translated contained the message that is in my sig.

I'm due for a change of avatar anyway.

Bill_Hix

Meh, I like that one. Maybe they will all start throwing pies at danny's drums for the next album. In the middle of a crop circle.

He plays 15 inch hats now, and 4 crashes instead of two, the drumming is gonna be heavy I think, but still interesting I think.

Coolest kit I have ever seen. Has he played it live yet? On the lateralus-tour? Is that gong ever used when palying live or is it just for the looks?

Yeah he used it live loads of time, as soon as he got it I think, before it he was using a wood grain Sonor kit I think.

Yes he has an extra arm that grew out of his tail bone.

I think it's just there to focus energy.

I havent heard of congs´ energyfocusing cababilities.

I didnt think that he had do have an extra arm for that because you know he has a really fearful sized...

Silence you fool.

He uses the gong when doing Lateralus live, during the 'with my feet upon the ground' bit when Adam starts using loads of echo and reverb up on fret 12.
He does this sneeky thing where he puts one stick under his arm and pulls the gong beater out from a little bag or something next to the snare stand and gives the gong a huge whack then drops the beater and pulls the stick from under his arm to keep playing the beat.
That's why on so many bootlegs you hear Danny dropping his sticks or fucking up on that part because of all the fidgeting about.

Watch the video at Drummer World.

You can hear the gong being used on No Quarter, i think he only uses it once though on the whole track...

Bill_Hix

I thought he used it for energy focus too. Plus don't gongs need special sticks before you can hit it? Like with wool on them or something like that?

Isac Khrondor

He hits it more than once, just all within a few seconds.

And yes, when Danny does his little gong trick in Lateralus the beater he uses does have fur at the end of it, you can use normal drumsticks.. it has to have fur or cotton or something soft.

Bill_Hix

I hope Adam's new picks have fur on them
