No Quarter is one of my favorite Tool performances, and I went on to thinking what song Tool should cover in the future. I think if they did an extended version of 'Mailman' from Soundgarden, it would really work well. Plus I just love that song. Any other songs you think (that actually could work) Tool should cover?

Britney Spears : Opps! I did it again.

Nar fuck that how about the sesame street theme song, in other words I don't want to hear covers, if I do I will listen to APC. Tool are all about originality and exploring new avenues so I guess if they did a cover(s) I hope they leave it off the album.

I recently downloaded No Quarter and after a few listens I find it quite boring, it's ok to listen to just before I fall asleep but that's about it. But just because I don't find it interesting doesn't mean others do, so if a cover was to be done and put on the album, I hope it's some obscure track that no one has heard of or something along those lines.

I don't want to hear Tool covers! APC screwed that up enough. Let's hear some new material.

definately.

I can totally hear maynard doing the vocal at the end of the song. It would be pretty pimp.

I'm with you, after that awful Lennon cover I think they should refrain from messing with other people's songs for a while.

No Quarter was awesome though. If I had to choose another cover, I'd love to see Tool do a version of When the Levee Breaks that had a little bit of an edge, more like the Zep version.

Okay yeah. "No Quarter" was good, but they were smart releasing it on Salival and not Ænima. A heavy version of "When The Levee Breaks" would be interesting; I'd like to see them pull it off with their new style (whatever it is).

I think that most of the Emotive songs were crap. Passive is good because it's original (among other reasons, of course) but most of those songs fell flat on their faces. People Are People, Peace Love & Understanding, Annhiliation, When The Levee Breaks (completely butchered)...I can't stand listening to most of that album.

Granted, I personally think it's their weakest album yet but I still think it's decent. I agree that it definitely lacks something. I talked to a friend, though, whose friend said that eMOTIVe was 2nd best to 13 step. I was shocked to hear that considering how much I love MDN and how well the music was written on it (not that I have any musical background to stand on).
I love the individual songs on mer de noms so much, but I do think Thirteenth Step flows a little better.

TS flows, but MDN's songs are better.

Maybe. They'd probably restructure it a bit though.

they'd probebly restructure Somewhat Damaged too- Like they did with Jerk Off

Perhaps, though I thinkthe structure and flow of that song is pretty strong as it is.

I would love to hear the extended version of Stinkfist done in the recording studio, I've heard it live and it sounds fucking awesome but if they re-do that to a cd then that would be mad. But not on the new album of course, that would have to go on the best of or the dvd or what ever the fuck the decide to do, there would be so much material Tool could release from the years of touring I'm sure they would have enough to make at least 10 cds/dvds.

They should put all the extended versions in studio quality onto a bside disk or ep or something. Like Stinkfist, Jerk Off, Pushit, Prison Sex, and Traid

Yes! I agree, I would buy that because I'm sick of the quality of these bootlegs I have to download. Fucking fuck fuck some fuck in the crowd and you can hear them talking through out the song, I want to kill that voice, but yes I agree.

I absolutely love the extended version of Stinkfist where they put the beginning in the middle and there is a build up just before that, that is fucking amazing.

I still dont know why they chose No Quarter, they executed it well, but its not exactly a classic Zep song. A Toolized Stairway To Heaven, with the intro played in a minor key with full distortion.

A Toolized Stairway To Heaven, with the intro played in a minor key with full distortion.Ummmm...I don't think that'd sound very good, but just my opinion. I still don't see why people think of STH as a good song. I don't.

Did I just make up the word "Toolized"?

A Tool cover of "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane
"Heresy" by NIN
"Kashmir" by Led Zeppelin
"Kid A" by Radiohead

Just try to imagine Tool playing their own version of these songs.

Hmmm,....I would suggest.....

"Dogs" by Pink Floyd
"School's Out" by Alice Cooper (It would be cool, they could make it into the is whole education thing)

and,.....

well,.....#@$% I don't know.

I wish that they would do more collaboration stuff with other bands.

"Revolution" with Rage Against The Machine was boss.
As was "Divorce" with the Melvins.

Great song...but I don't think it'd sond good if tool covered it.....I'd rather them not do a bunch of covers like APC (just got eMOTIVe today, so far don't care too much for it), but if they must then definatly Zeppelin or Pink Floyd

Ashes-TO-Ashes
02-26-2005, 08:47 PM
As far as eMOTIVe goes, there was not one original song on the album. Passive was from the Tapeworm song called Vacant. Counting Bodies Like Sheep is just Pet. Everything else is well known to be remakes.

I would like TOOL to cover Achilles Last Stand. Maybe.

I can only think of them covering Zeppelin songs...

Some Pink Floyd would rule,

"Dogs"
"One Of These Days"
"Echoes"
"Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun"
"Astronomy Domine"
or
"Interstellar Overdrive"
