Sorry if this has already been brought up.
This song is about the band, and the communication they are talking about is one of music. They all "know the peices fit" and that they can make great music together, but because of everything that has happened to them it isnt quite comming together. They are all supposed lovers and are for sure brothers. The song is them relating back to each other, opening up, and pouring themselves into the music(the universal language).

you make a really good point and that could be true, but its impossible to totaly nail down any tool song. for all we know he could be talking about pigeons in the part fighting for food.

very interesting, the whole between supposed brothers makes a lot of sense with this, but I always like the relationship interp...really good idea though
