My friend

I'm not sure what this song is about...but what I do know is that this is exactly how my recently departed friend described his experience of life as a deeply depressed sufferer of bipolar disorder. For years he spoke about his life as nothing more than a wait for death or some other form of change that would ease his constant emotional pain. Unfortunately, he didn't have it in him to wait it out and recently took his own life. I also know that TOOL's music gave him a place of repose to visit that felt familiar and appropriate to him. He sometimes felt that he and the music were commiserating together and I'm grateful to the members of TOOL for giving him those moments of respite.
