I got these new pair of awesome vintage headphones and listened to AEnima the other night.

Anyways it sounded different and I finally realized that this is I would say the mos metal album I have heard. The reason people don't understand it is cause its on a totally foreign level than we are used to. But if you think about it, it is a purely metal album. From the riffs to the segues to the artwork. The only reason people think its wierd and different is because it is to them, but it really isn't wierd or different.

They use metal elements, but aren't in the same vein or have the same flavor as say metallica.

Tool is usually classified under Progressive Metal. I guess it fits in there

I think the prog rock catagory kind of fits...but I also do think that Tool steps outside these boundaries as in they don't just make a hard metal album, or an album with a bunch of love songs, they create a bunch of songs that can be variously interpreted because controversy keeps things interesting, so you can't always say that such and such song is a rock song or a love song or a hardcore metal song, it just has some elements of different "catagories of music" in it!

i think tool belongs in the "polka" category so only people looking for it will find it. either that or convert some polka listeners...
