I love the Peach album and liked how they included a cover of King Crimson's "Cat Food". I actually thought it was a Peach song until I purchased KC's "In the Wake of Poseidon". I recommend both Peach and King Crimson to any TOOL fan. Anyway, I feel TOOL has a remarkable ability to take a cover and make it their own in a way, much like with Led Zepplin's "No Quarter", another Peach song, "Spasm", and The Ramones' "Commando", which I had the privelage of seeing TOOL open their Moline, IL concert with. I even heard that "No Quarter" was going to be on the Aenima album but wasn't perfected in time. Do us a favor, guys, start covering Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park, maybe you can make something decent out of it.

Actually I think that, if Tool worked at it, they could make something beautiful out of any song. I think that Tool would do a fabulously inspiring cover of, say, Linkin Park's "My December," and perhaps they could even pull something good out of Limp Buiscuit.

so essentially what you are saying is that tool could do a great cover of "rhinestone cowboy" or how about "material girl" ? first of all there is art then ther is weird al type crap. and while if for some reason tool ever did a cover of something such as one of the two above songs (i will kill myself) i am sure it would be either as a joke or because they found some twisted contorted meaning to the song that fit them. but seriously folks! come on, it isnt and shouldnt happen i mean really limp bizcut or linkon park?

I completely agree with what you're saying, and agree with what Maynard said on a Channel V Special that "bands" like them shouldn't even be catagorized as music, but simply clever marketing ideas. I put that in there as a joke, just trying to get across how talented TOOL is and how they manage to completely revitilize songs they didn't even write.

With that note: What songs would you like to hear TOOL cover next? Personally, I'd like to hear "Sleepyhouse" by Blind Melon or "Walking on Air" by King Crimson.

I don't think this song is about how good of a cover Tool can make. I see it as sort of a tribute to Peach. They were a good band and probably would have gotten a lot better in time. Tool toured wiith them and their influence certainly had an impact on their style of playing. I also think it was fun for Justin to play some songs that he introduced to the world.
As for anyone covering Tool, they shouldn't.

Limp Biscuit has an Opiate cover, and he doesn't even know half the words.

I will just leave the Tool covers to the professionals, though I do like the light that Tool shines on everything.

Fuck limp bizkit and fuck linkin park. You should be ashamed that you even know any linkin park song titles and that limp bizkit covered tool.

What I think they should cover on their next ep is Cowboy Dan by Modest Mouse. Or hell, anything by Modest Mouse. Tool would finally stop singing about this pansy ass "i'm a holy and spiritual pretentious jerk" crap, and start singing about manly things like being a cowboy, doin the cockroach, and gettin into bar fights.

But on a more serious note I think they do excellent covers. Just look at how they turned the most mediocre song on Houses Of The Holy (The Crunge still has its... yeah) and turned it into such an amazing song. I want to use the phrase "the best song" somewhere, but this ep is loaded with so many incredible songs and tool has done so many incredible songs that it just doesn't fit. And this song is certainly the best mellow song they've ever done. I'd love to see them play it live some time. This cover seems very very raw for tool.

Cowboy? Cockroach? I guess your definition of "manly" differs from mine, cause I don't wear boots or ride a horse and feel finding spirituality is one of the most important things in life. This is the part where you say it was a joke...please.

Of course it was a joke. How could it be anything other than a joke? And I agree, finding spirituality is one of the biggest parts of life.

ahahahaha! you guys seriously make me laugh. i just had this image in my head of maynard jumping around on stage with a red baseball cap and A.D.I.D.A.S. get up and rapping limp bizquick lyrics! seriously try to imagine it. isn't it funny???! it's funny to think about really inteleligent, wise people doing stupid things.

ragna16

It's also funny to see people who have no inkling of what they're doing try to be intelligent.

Seriously though, what could be more manly that a cowboy fighting a 6 ft tall cocroach in a bar?

See that's what I'm saying. It would be the best thing for tool to ditch the arty immage and go for the MANLY! immage. And since tool are such great musicians I think they could could ealsily make a song with bad music and great lyiics like
"Well, Cowboy Dan's a major player in the cowboy scene
He goes to the reservation drinks and gets mean
He's gonna start a war
He hops in his pickup puts the pedal to the floor
And says "I got mine but I want more"
Well, Cowboy Dan's a major player in the cowboy scene
He goes to the reservation drinks and gets mean
He drove the desert, fired his rifle in the sky
And says, 'God if I have to die you will have to die'"
to a song with amazing music and great lyrics.

I would have to say "Party All the Time" that Eddie Murphy did back in the 80's.
But seriously, not joking at all, I would like to hear them do "Drive" by The Cars. Please don't come to my house and kill me for saying that.

i would love to see tool do a bitchin' rocked out devo cover. "mongoloid" or "gut feeling" would be good choices. i would love to hear tool's take on any devo song. rage did "beautiful world" and turned it from fecitious power-pop to revolutionary depression music. i liked that cover, but i really want to hear tool do devo.

booji boy!

You guys who are serious about this must eat McDonald's alot. I've got a better idea, lets boycott these bands by not even downloading their CD's

What the hell are you thinking, Andy DV, telling TooL, such a distinguished and original band, to cover such bullshit as Linkin Park and Limpbizkit. Thats just stupid. Thats telling TooL to completely direguard what they are all about and take a giant leep back from where they are now.

Actually if you want to fuck over a band the best way to do that is to download the music. If downloading music really does stop bands producing new material then you can stop bands producing new material by downloading their music. It's more neagtive then not doing anything at all.

If you have no moral promblems with it.... that is

Yeah...you should go buy the CD's and give the band back what they give to you...although, there's no way 15 dollars could come close to what TOOL gives us...at least give them that much.

While obviously no one here likes linkin park or limpbizkit I think you all should consider that it is still music. While clearly not as talented as Tool they are still musicians. Also if you read the first post here you'll notice that while linkin park and limp bizkit arn't accebtable, peach is. I have no problems with peach but they are not any more talented than linkin park.

The only way Tool COULD ever even do a cover of a Limp Biskit or Linkin Park song is to ahve the same name.....even then i would be ashamed.

I would like to see Tool do a cover of Opeth- To Rid the Disease, and
Black Sabath- National Acrobat

I am afraid that neither Linkin Park or Limp Bizkit, or any other fuck up band or "artist" out their doing what their doing or rapping is a musician. They are not musicians because what they create is not music.

Music=Vocal or instrumental sounds possessing a degree of melody, harmony, or rhythm. Or= An aesthetically pleasing or harmonious sound or combination of sounds

Most bands including the main two talked about here produce music by definition. They just want to write something that might get stuck in your head, so that way you'll think that it might be good because you've repeated it to yourself so many times that it starts sounding good. Then you go buy their CD and realize a day or two later that they really suck.

People that corrupt the music world like they do deserve to be shot, or at least to die in some way so that there sins might be wiped away from this world.

I'm sure we all agree that TOOL did a magnificent job on No Quarter, I bet that they would do an excellent job on Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath. Anything Black Sabbath would be good probably. Personally I think that they make music beatifully and really don't even need to do covers. But they do really good ones when they do.

The people that corrupt it should be shot, or the people that allow it to get stuck in their head and deluded into thinking it's good should be shot?

All of these bands you hate have to be accepted before they can succeed. Take your war to those who listen to them. And then realise and honestly acknowledge that you are trying to violate their path to self-determination. Is that wrong? Debatable. But it's a pretty big bullet to bite.

Honestly, for the most part I'm not that fond of the human race at all. People in a large spectrum shouldn't be living (I'm definitley not excluding myself). I'll have to say that both deserve to be shot. I believe in choice of course, so they can have their self-determination, but I can have the gun. Shooting them can be my choice and them trying to destroy what music is in essence can be shot.

Of course I realize that my mouth is the gun, and I'm just shooting a bunch of shit, but I really hate them, and convincing someone that their "music" sucks isn't so easy. That is why I just try to convince them that my music is better.
