I always thought this song was about being let down, by a friend or mentor "someone prepared to lead the way".
It may be trite but Bill Hicks comes to mind, " he had alot to say we'll miss him". my guess is that maynard and bill were good friends and then at some point felt misled by bill and railed against him in this song a little due to his feeling of being duped by the ideas of this revolutionary thinker. that's not to say that the ideas were faulty , perhaps only the source. Bill is pictured as a doctor working on maynard on aenima, many of us have friends like this and are that friend, trying to open the eyes of people supposedly.

Bill died at 32, Christ at 33, "not all martyrs see divinty".
I believe maynard put his faith in Bill then he died, then came the anger, "would you die for me?, don't you fucking lie"

When maynard says "you told us how you weren't afraid to die" i think it eludes to H , perhaps maynard becomes the next fool martyr as bill inspired him, he inspires us...
