Alright, I think this song is about Tool themselves. I read somewhere in the articles section that after that huge gap between AEnima and Lateralus, when Maynard started doing stuff with A Perfect Circle, the rest of the band (Danny, Justin, Adam) said that at certain times they got jealous or upset with Maynard for doing that. On top of that they had lawsuits, etc. to deal with. Maynard has also said in interviews that all of that crap helped him write the songs on Lateralus. So I think maybe Schism is about them. Especially the line near the end about cold silence having a tendency to atrophy any sensation of compassion between supposed brothers.
