I've heard that so many times.

I actually had never seen the artwork from the pixies album (doolittle), until recently, so I guess i can plead ignorance to plagiarism ;)

The images are actually ispired by two of my favorite photographers: Joel Peter Witkin and Hans Nelleman.

You should all search the web for them those two guys rock my world.

Thanks for all the kind comments too :)

the first one made me think immediately of the artwork in some of nine inch nails' albums, especially the downward spiral. the other ones with the forks and meaty-looking substances remind me more of tool and the brothers quay.

might i ask what sort of special tools you needed for those? i'm interested in knowing how you achieved that lighting because of the mood it imparts.

i'm a big fan of photography of mundane things in a way that makes them look sinister... great work!

Those pics are pretty cool, though I think from now on I’ll eat all my meals with a spoon....hehe

There’s obviously a lot of talent involved in these photo’s, they’re all really well done.

Finally someone asks me a technical question!

They were shot in my garage with the door open at about 2 in the afternoon, the lighing is purely sunlight.

The camera I used was a 4x5 view camera, which produces a 4x5 inch negative, which in turns makes beautiful large grainless prints.

Another useful tool (no pun) in 4x5 photography are the movements of the camera. The front and rear of the camera move independantly of each other and are conected by a bellows (the long accordian looking thing) this makes it possible to change the point of focus in the image.

Rather then run in a vertical (Is that right?) plane you can turn the point of focus into a cone. Look closely, notice how some sections are in focus and some are not.

I actually cheated with the tones, the original images are a much lighter brown tone, so I toned them in photoshop to get the tone I originally wanted.

By the way the meaty things with the forks are ox tongues.

Thanks for all your interest, sorry for going on so much :)

Hey, yeah these are definitely some amazing photos! The colours and lighting are quite reminiscent of the Pixies artwork - go here to have a look at his body of work: http://www.simon-larbalestier.co.uk/

Obviously no-one's suggesting plaguerism anyways man ;)

I agree with Seeker too - the later ones do remind you of the video for 'Sober' and what not :) Especially one where it looks like there's a brain in a box!

Keep up the good work man!

Hey everybody.

I am bumping this post up for a reason, I thought about just starting a new post but I changed my mind.

The reason I bumped this up is that i'm pissed off with all of you who have contributed to this arts forum with images that are not your own.

You are supposed to be creative, pinching a picture from the inside cover of a tool album and applying a photoshop filter to it is not creative.

And to all the people who have created something original whether it be a pencil drawing, a digital piece, a painting or whatever, you guys are the greatest. You've put yourself out there, you have made yourself vulnerable, and I'm going to post a reply to all of your original artwork posts.

To the rest of you: get a fucking life, put some fucking effort in, stop blatantly plagiarising images, take your own fucking pictures.

Thank you for listening.

Ok it took me a while but I posted followups on all the excellent original artwork in this section.

You people all rock, i love all your images. You are making yourselves vulnerable, you are brave to show your artwork and ask for peoples opinions on them.

Please keep posting all your original artwork, I know i seem like a bit of a hypocrite for not posting more stuff, but my flatbed is broken. But as soon as its fixed I will post more artwork.

Its good to see such diversity in the art, some people have chosen traditional routes like pencil and paint and others have chosen 3d and other digital methods, but they are all very inspiring, and I apologise for not looking at them all when they were first posted.

All of you, keep up the good work, lets show everyone on this website that we are original thinkers, and lets encourage people who havent yet posted art to do so.

Thanks again for the beautiful, twisted, scary, funny images.

Limo :)
