Someone has most likely posted this idea, so I will make it very brief.
I don't remeber the time period, but at one point the church was so corrupt that they would excommunicate a person, or perform interdict.
Eventually, Popes were popping up in many places, because a newly elected pope was of french origin, when most all previous had been italian. Because the pope stayed in France, Italy decided to elect there own pope.
This shows how much faith people really do have in religion.
Eventually Germany had there own pope as well.
What does this say for the people closer to Jesus Christ? It seems that the goverment, wants to rule you politically and religously.
This may not say much for the relation to the song, seeing how I have no exact quotes, and I did not elaborate certain meanings of phrases in the song, but I think most all of you can see the broad assumption I am making, and you can make your own connections later. At least it will give you something to think about.
And of course, to use your mind, you must be open-minded. And while being open, there will soon be a definite closure.
