in every hopsital room is a tv..right in front of the guest aka sick/die'n person..nurses almost always put the news on..leaving em stear at the tv like zombies..each person has a differant story..so the story goes..as a visitor he could only look thru the doors watching from a distance or in passing...much better them/u then i

Thats an interesting theory. I don't think that your really getting the meaning of Vicarious. Listen to the song many, many, many more times. OK? At least read the lyrics a couple times. Think what you want to think but there is no way that this song is about a hosptal hallway.

The hospital idea is interesting. I took the lyrics and started thinking how could a hospital hallway relate to the lyrics. The outcome of my thinking might differ from the OP's one, but maybe it could develop the conversation to new branches.

Eye on the TV
'cause tragedy thrills me
Whatever flavor it happens to be

Like:
"Killed by the husband" ...
"Drowned by the ocean" ...
"Shot by his own son" ...
"She used a poison in his tea,
Then (she) kissed him goodbye"
That's my kind of story
It's no fun til someone dies.

Watching the televisions and the patients as walking by the rooms in the hospital. The news in the television seems so distant and thrilling. However, when looking at the patients it is more real and "its no fun till someone dies" since they represent the people behind the news, who have survived some tragedy and now have to live it.

Don't look at me like I am a monster
Frown out your one face, but with the other (you)
Stare like a junkie into the TV
Stare like a zombie while the mother holds her child,
Watches him die,
Hands to the sky cryin "why, oh why?"

Maybe the patient in one room notices your tragedy tourism and gives you disrespectful face, but in reality the patient is just like you - the only difference is that the patient follows the TV.

Cause I need to watch things die from a distance
Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies
You all need it too - don't lie.

Why can't we just admit it?
Why can't we just admit it?
We won't give pause until the blood is flowin'
Neither the brave nor bold
Nor brightest of stories told
We won't give pause until the blood is flowin'

I need to watch things die from a good safe distance
Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies
You all feel the same so why can't we just admit it?

We all benefit from tragedies, and it would be rad to acknowledge it.

Blood like rain fallin' down
Drum on grave and ground

Part vampire, part warrior,
Carnivore and voyeur
Stare at the transmittal.
Sing to the death rattle.

La, la, la, la, la, la, la-lie (x4)

Now you get to the person you are supposed to visit in the hospital. He is not in good condition and the situation does not look good for him.

You stare at the heart rate machine that reflects his bad condition, but you decide to talk positive and sing the lies to the death rattle.

One some level you might benefit from the situation, on some other level you do not. You are part vampire, part warrior.

Credulous at best
Your desire to believe in
Angels in the hearts of men.
But pull your head on out (of) your hippie haze
And give a listen
Shouldn't have to say it all again

The universe is hostile
So impersonal
Devour to survive
So it is, so it's always been ...

The patient talks about what if some miracle happens through some person/doctor and his state would be improved drastically.

However, you know this would not be the case. You think the patient should take a look around at the other patients and how everyone else are just hanging there for their own survival.

We all feed on tragedy.
It's like blood to a vampire.

The tragedies are everywhere, and in some form or another we all benefit from it.

Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies
Much better you than I.

Now you are leaving the hospital, and for sure you do not want to be in the place of some of those patients.

sounds like a good music video. open it with lost keys, doing a long shot a nurse walking down the same hallway. im thinking of her feet in the shot, with a long dolly from behind. focus would be on the floor itself. something like a black and white checkerboard pattern. the whole doctor dialogue could show the three in a room. the doctors feet, the nurses feet, then the patients feet, dangling from exam table. then into vicarious.

Way over thought and way over analyzed. This song is simply about the human need to see death and tragedy. Mostly how americans feed on it through the mass media outlets. Thats it. We feed on it and its much better someone else than me. I would explain more but its pointless. Just listen to the song and read through the lyrics again. Im not bashing your thoughts but they are not aimed at the true meaning of this song.

I think it is not just about seeing, we actually live because of someone else tragedy. I think just saying it is about "seeing death and tragedy" is not all of it.

If your reply was supposed to falsify jenocide's interpretation, this is not the way to do it. There were not any argument why it was not close to "true meaning".

I say: "I think this candy tastes sweet".
You say: "That is not true, because I think it tastes bad".

Of course, one could wonder if there is any point to use term "true meaning" when talking about interpretations of this song..

You are right about the "true meaning" comment. I should have just stuck with "they are not aimed at the meaning of this song." It was a very poor choice of words. But I still stick to the rest of my statement.

You are correct. I am sorry for my ignorance in my past posts on this thread. I do not have the right, and it is not my place to say that your interpretation of this song is not aimed at the meaning of this song. Songs mean different things to all of us and we all have our own views of things and free thought is one of the things that makes us human and what we are. Your view of what this song could mean is very interesting, and considering the fact that you have spent quite some time in a hospital, it is unique. I myself was in a hospital for 17 days recently after a bad bike accident and I can see where your coming from. Again, I am sorry.

We shouldn't try to analyze every aspect of every song we love, just to fully enjoy it. Tool Is The epitamy of letting yourself "go", therefore take it as it comes, and bang your head a couple of times in the mean time.

This is a very interesting topic. My sister worked as a nurse in a large hospital, but then she had to quit and she could not find a job for a long time. Thanks to a good review https://edureviewer.com/best-nurse-resume-writing-services/ my sister managed to learn how to write a good nursing resume and now she is again helping people restore their health.
