so as this is the only show in the tri-state area, anyone think tool will give a good setlist?

we got the patient back in 06... (the last time it was ever played)

here's to hoping for an oldie gem like h., the grudge, pushit, third eye, swamp song, opiate, and/or eulogy!

Setlist is gonna be tricky to even guess on. They're playing many festivals so APW won't be a particularly 'special' occasion. I'm expecting at least 4 tracks from 10k Days, along with most singles after Undertow era...in other words, similar mix as the 10000 tour but with Jambi and Wings switched out for a Parabola or Grudge or Aenema. I won't be checking setlists before this show so hopefully it'll be a pleasant surprise.

But yeah, I'll be there with a few friends. We're all from NJ so if you have any questions (crincled, I'm looking at you), feel free to ask. Jersey jokes are invited too, but don't make fun of the venue: it's a nice park and you can see the Statue of Liberty...out of the four Tool shows I've been to, I'm pretty sure the atmosphere for this one is going to be the tops.

My understanding is you'll only need the ferry if you're coming from NY or points north. Hate to break it to ya, but all the pretty girls will be in New York. Good luck lowering your standards for us dirty Jersey folk. Expect plenty of breadlocks and girl pants at the festival.

ive been listening to all the bands on spotify. i like neko case... arctic monkeys are cool too.

edit: so how hard will it be to get up front, nice and close to the stage?

I wonder if they will make an adjustment and perform Right in Two since the APW Fest main stage faces the Statue of Liberty. that would be a nice touch.

Im driving in and have a DD taking me home. not too crazy about the other bands - but Gogol bordelo is fun ive seen them before. they can get a bit rowdy.

Make your own formula:

2 stage festival
~40,000 attendance
Saturday night is almost strictly going to be Tool fans
Barrier is far from the actual stage (based on photos from last year)

I'd say you'd have to be inching to the front about 2.5 hours before Tool is supposed to take the stage, if you wanna get to the barrier without bum rushing.

It took my friend 4.5 hours to get to the barrier comfortably for the Rage Against the Machine reunion two years ago at a festival that had two stages but 80,000 people in attendance, almost all Rage fans.

They didn't do that for the Washington DC show I went to back in 2006, a place where you think that song might have extra relevance.

I'm going to this! Who wants to have a beer... WITH SONNYBOY!? :D

So, I want to make it known that I am also a huge My Bloody Valentine fan. If you're not a fan and aren't sure what to expect, they are a British shoegazer pop band with light, airy vocals and massive walls of guitar/bass fuzz. There are similiarities to bands like the Jesus and Mary Chain, Chapterhouse, etc but they are one of the originals.

And while I am on the subject, I need to make it very clear that if you are going to watch them and position yourself well for Tool, you need to read the following

WEAR EAR PLUGS!

I am going to repeat that a couple of more times in the future... heck I'll go ahead and do it again right now

WEAR EAR PLUGS!

I could go into a long winded explanation of why you need to do this, but trust me, there will be a moment during their show (you'll know when it is) when you will silently think to yourself "thank you sonnyboy".

Make an exception. I hear ya loud and clear- normally only go to Coacella these days for festivals- but this is a really unique line up. It's too good to pass up, imo, especially if you're in the area (I'm flying in from CA for it)

i actually decided to not head back to NYC till the 2nd..since flights were full from where i live. kinda sucks but i made my mind up a long time to forego festivals. i have to warm up to the idea of being around so many people. I am sure it will be a great time though.

Im coming in from Queens and will be driving there. Can you believe they want 40,000 people to take the ferries? maybe spread out over the day with arrivals it might work, but what about after? drunk, sunburned and partied out concert goers will be forced to the docks (cuz you know park security will want to get everyone out of there). it will be a nightmare at the end - but the day will be great. Obvously im there for Tool, but still very curous about some of these bands. should be a good day.

Chadbourne- there is a pretty decent option (I think) for taking the trains instead of the ferry. I picked it up at the APW forums. Take a look and let me know what you think

Thanks for the link. I read in a few places that the walk is a long way from the NJ Transit and Light Rail stations. some people suggest bikes. Looking at the map below, the light rail station is on the edge of the green, just above Rt. 78 going NW from the center of the park (looks like its less than 1/2 mile directly).

My parking pass has yet to arrive (shocking) so i may have to use one of these routes anyway. still rather drive, but driving to a closeby rail station and trainig it in the rest of the way doesnt sound to bad.

It definitely looks like the Ferry is the easiest for me to get to. But the train is far cheaper.

Hey man, I'd be glad to grab a beer with ya. Preferably before MBV; I'm wearing earplugs all day anyway, but I have a fresh pair for the holocaust in Realise (I'm assuming that's what you're getting at). Maybe I should tie my shirt around my head too and let my chest take the aural beating.

will do sonnyboy - everyone i ask about my parking pass tells me thanks for my business, but wont follow through on thier end. customer service should be renamed to "Automated Excuse Que." shocking my questions have yet to be answered.

anyway, enough woe is me BS - no pass then i think light rail will be the way for my group as well. ill keep ya informed.

945 settime - and it doesnt look liek they are a stand alone band. not sure how i feel about that.

Hmm, I dunno. I'd say Do Lab. I'll pm peeps my info day of and if you can tell me where you're at, we'll have a beer!

Just a reminder, bring an alcohol wipe with you. I hear there is a beer limit and they mark you after each drink. Not that I'm gettin drunk or anything. I just don't like anyone telling me how much I can have! :D

C'mon. Really? Don't you all know by now that the setlist will be:

Jambi
(-) Ions
Stinkfist
46&2
Schism
Lost Keys (with long intro)
Rosetta Stoned
Flood
AEnema
-Intermission-
Lateralus (w/ drum duel)
Vicarious

LOL!

But in all seriousness, I am wondering who, if anyone, will be twittering tonight, too, because I have family and friends at this show, but I ended up cheaping out and not buying a ticket myself. And I will be so jealous and disappointed in myself if they play a totally different set tonight.

EDIT:

it appears that NimhOfJoy is twittering the setlist tonight: http://twitter.com/NimhOfJoy#/NimhOfJoy
