I've got an option of what to get with parental endorsement, and I really honestly have no clue.

Currently I'm using a 4 string bass, wanting a 6-7, but it's out of the question to get one at this time ...

I'm running a preamp -> poweramp -> cabinet setup with a custom designed home build 1 15" cabinet, I had designed by a professional (he owned a speaker shop named Sounds Alive, and designed all of his cabinets)

I want to pick up guitar sometime, and I know it would help my compositional abilities and theory knowledge ... and besides, it'd just be plain fun ...

The effects I currently own are a Boss Mega Distortion pedal and an Ibanez CF-7 Chorus-Flanger pedal.

Ask for a car... or a house in some cool country.

HEY WINDIR! That's the 18th birthday ... not parental-endorsement-of-musical-obsession-day .... and I can't drive. And I'm not 18.

*bump*

I'm thinking about getting the recording setup ... possibly? Does anyone else think this is a good idea?

It's hard choice since all of those aren't really in the same price range. My friend has a home studio in his bedroom, and he's still paying it off.

You can mic your amp with the sm57 for starters. There's better, I believe, but this one's up there and gets the job done.

YOu can check here for recording equipment. I know of some good systems, but can't remember the names off the top of my head.

www.musiciansfriend.com is a great site if your looking for any piece of equipment involving music.

Again, the recording idea is very expensive. If you want to go digital. Be prepared to be a good consumer.

What I was thinking of doing was buying a 5-7 input soundcard, and running cords to adapters plugged into wall plugs. I'd use Cool Edit Proto edit the tracks, and add effects.

That'd be about 600$ (I'm asking for X-mas presents).

No, that sounds about right.

I have a $4000 setup, and spend all my money of recording stuff.

$6oo sounds about right for what he described.

I'm not doing anything really fuckin complicated here

I'm buying XLR jacks. Cords. Adapters. A 120$ soundcard. And cool edit pro.

That's the basics for recording, it's not going to be as good as a studio, but it'll be the next thing to
