lateralus has alot of ways to view what it means, how to pronounce it etc... well i heard this somewhere a long time ago... but it said the word comes from latin. Lateral + us. meaning we are all on the same level... we are all lateral with eachother "we may go where no one's been... spiral out"

I don't think that it's a literal adding of "us" as a concept of "we" to "lateral." A little more subtle, I think. If I recall my Latin (yeah, actually took a course on that), "us" is a suffix that denotes a noun. The lateral. The next step further out.
