Ok, I am a Third Eye TOOL Fan, nevertheless, I have been introduced to Dream Theater in recent months, and I've come to the conclusion that there are many similarities.

For instance.

46 n 2, Tool; compared to The Great Debate, Dream Theater.

Danny Carey's Style; compared to The Dance of Eternity, Dream Theater.

Nothing against TOOL, but I beLIEve that Dream Theater had to be an inspiration to TOOL. I've seen nothing about it on any site or article.

How Many Agree?

I think of Dream Theatre more along the lines of Rush,Yes, and other prog bands.I think you will find the more you listen to DT you will find the more they rip themselves off.

i think your right. i never really heard of dream theatre, until this thread came about and i had to look them up on youtube. but they sure as hell sound like they got all the musical talent in the world. their singer aint much. but yes, i agree, they are selling themselves short. with that much talent, they should be able to mustard up something worth listening to.

i agree. much as i like them, they should be able to stop jerking off and write something amazing. Octavarium came close, but the middle fell apart.

I have to say their best album would be train of thought. That record is the only thing I can listen to the whole album back to back. Its got a good flow to it not like octavarium or systematic chaos.

I thought Octavarium had flow. But i was refering to the song not the album.... no worries

PRYING OPEN MY THIRD EYE!

TRAPPED INSIDE THIS OCTAVARIUM!

Just sayin'!

Intriguingly too, DT seemed to have embraced Tool before the rest of the prog community actually, when you look at it. DT where already taking cues from Tool, as far back as Awake (the song "Lie" - which shares certain similarities with Intolerance) and also on Falling To Infinity (the song "New Millennium")

Not much of a DT fan these days, Awake is an amazing album though. Lyrically and thematically DT aren't that complex of a band at all though.
