My interpretation of this song is that this could be about anybody, not just Jesus. Historically, Jesus was a Jew, and the Jews would say that it is blasphemous to believe that a human being is god. So I’m saying is just to look at him as another man, for that is what he was. He was just like you or me. He had great insight yes, but that is not the point here. The point is that the world is full of authorities, rules, regulations, and restrictions and we have to take it upon ourselves to weed threw the bullshit and find truth; if such a thing exists. You have to be a little fragile, a little vulnerable, lost but not broken, but most of all you must care. I don’t want to make this too long, but here is a thought that came to me late yester night inspired by ‘sober’.

I am just a worthless liar
I am just an imbecile
I was never made to hate just complicate you
Why can’t we be lost forever?
What does it mean to be sober?
I am here to make a difference
I am here to open you
Mother me was just as fickle
Now I see her disappear
Why have you given me this power?
I just don’t know how to work it
All you say is
Trust me…
Trust me…
Trust me…

What does it mean to be over?
Question me I know you will
What is this that I feel?
I just want you to show me
Such relief will never come
Why can’t we be lost together?
Some say that I have been found
I just want to know why

I have cheated everybody
No one else seems to care
Just as long as they ignore it
Help me please
I wish you well
I have been made to fight them, but they do not show themselves
Never once was I broken
Don’t come down to understand
Wash away with the others
You need me so trust is near
Why can’t we just understand?
What are you?
I need you well
Please be whole when I meet you
Exist beyond my temptation
Such a thing is never near
Why are you all around me?
People here don’t seem to understand
Or do they?
No one knows the question well
You are breaking cause I’m near
I never intended your eyes to be as deep as they are now

Such a dream is never real
What was it that made you here?
Is this just a passing mood?
Is this just a fallacy?
Am I one or am I empty?
No one here seems to know
I am right where I need to?
Be for me
I know you are
Please show me a blinking light
Something warm and not pastel
Who am I?
You seem to know
Are my instincts just as fickle?

Trust me…
Trust me…
Trust me…

Great interpretation. I definantly think we should take it apon ourselves to find the truth. It it about the individual, not the authority held over him/her. I also have found many truths by being vulnerable, in more ways than one. Not just finding the truth, but subjecting myself to it.

*Sighs* Finally, a wonderful, inspiring, honest piece of poetry. For me it quite possibly the first to be found here amongst the narcissistic, negative norm. Thank you. One of my favorite ideas concerning truth I ever heard was in the Gospel of Thomas. Christ said: "To find what is hidden from you, look right in front of your face."

Maynard was also born into a Baptist family...that doesn't make him believe EVERYTHING a Baptist is supposed to follow, or believe...just as Jesus broke from Judism (in a way) and started Christianity...although, l do agree, l don't think it's about Jesus.
