Okay, I won't get into a philosophical discussion over this one. I don't agree with your point, but that's irrelevant. The title does grab you (even if it is intended for shock value). The construction is tight - a triplet for the first stanza with 3 syllables each. And the second stanza (with 2 syllables each line) jumps from point to point and leads you to the deadpan finale. The 2 misspellings are the only things that detract from the structural quality of the poem.
Are you challenging society or begging for attention? Be honest with yourself. You are free to express yourself, and so am I. I have no beef with you, I just don't like your work. I'm one of that group that you intended to offend. I also fed into your attention-seeking device.
Name one other soul or entity in history that millions have given their lives up for - in their name. Nobody - and there's a good reason for that. Educate yourself before you spew more of these ill-formed philosophical ramblings. You don't have to believe, but you should have a better understanding of your chosen topic(s)..

it took me a total 60 seconds to write this poem - it was actually nothing more than a comment that I said, took out some words, and broke it into stanzes. no serious thought went into this, only my heart and honesty.

When I say "give up their lives" - I'm not speaking of devotion. I mean they were put to death, by the millions, for His name. Millions have died rather than deny Christ. It's one thing to be "devoted" - but its a whole other ballgame to die for something. Sure you hear the occasional story about someone dieing for what they believe in, terrorists, religous fanatics, etc.. However - millions of Christians were persecuted and put to death over the centuries. Folks like you would say they were ignorant or brainwashed - that reasoning doesn't fly when you consider the sheer numbers. Think about it - would all these men and women give up their lives for a lie? NO WAY JOSE They knew what was up.
Some christians believe for the fear, some for the want of love-this one for statistics.

maybe I'm not, but as I understood it, you were trying to give validity to jesus because of all the people who died in his name. I don't see how that could validify (now its a word) him or christianity.

How can you love something you fear. Fear should not come into love-maybe YOU don't want it. Love I experiance from my family and lover does not include fear.

Those who believe in a specific (G)od or religion will be informed of their eternal destiny at that point in time. In the meantime, each of us cope in whatever way we see fit. Every now and then, someone shouts their point of view at the top of their lungs (which I'm doing now) to see who may be listening. All I can suggest is: believe in SOMETHING - something that makes you feel better; something that gives you hope; something that causes you to believe in a higher power other than mankind/womankind.

I just hate it when people beliefss interfere with the way they communicate with others. particularly because of funcamentalist beliefes.
whats that thing about "believe nothing, believeing kills the mind" on the aenima cd-pamphlet? made a lot of sense to me - to believe is to potentially limit yourself from learning the truth. but even if the truth was found to you, would you not believe it because of the "belieee nothing" philosophy?

Nihilists are jaded because they've never had any hope for one reason or another. Beaten as a child? Molested? Witnessed their parents die in a horrible accident? All such events curve our ability to find hope in life (and for good reason). We can't force-feed each other specific religions because we've all suffered separate realities. I can't begin to imagine what it's like to be raped or tortured. So why should I have the audacity to convince you to believe in a specific deity? If you don't, then I don't really care one way or the other. Ascend to Heaven, burn in Hell, wallow in Purgatory, find your Path - you decide. The choices are there.

There's nothing negative in being wrong as long as you've taken the chance. For some morbid reason, I always wished for a huge problem in my life until I developed cancer. After that hurdle, I started to see things a changed way. Maybe sitting on that icy cold metal slab and having a radiologist burn the invading cells away made me realize that I have a specific amount of time to exist. Unfortunately, that's what it took - a slap in the face with my own mortality.
