WOW. these guys never cease to amaze me. highlights for me were hooker with a penis, ticks and leeches, and pushit. also, the jam session before schism was EPIC! my only disappointment was they didnt play the pot and maynard was not very talkative. this was my 6th tool show... and hope they r many more in the future

Just got done boozing. Show was amazing, third tool show. One thing pissed me off though. The sound sucked. There was way too much limiting on the FOH mix which caused Maynard's vocals to be squashed into nothing and inaudible for most of the show. During quiet parts it sounded great and he was clear. Get someone in there who knows how to mix a live show. Can't wait to see them again on their next tour, whenever that may be.

What he ^ said. Sound was horrible. Loads of clipping all night long. Maynard's vocals sounded like they were run through some sort of comb filter. His squawk box vocals were almost impossible to hear. Maybe I was too close? Glad I got to finally see/hear Hooker and Pushit.

This was my 5th or 6th time seeing Tool, and I realized last night that it's not the same anymore. It'll never be as good as Cobo Hall in '02.

First Tool show ever... and really, really disappointed. As mentioned above, the sound SUCKED. Maynard's vocals were muddled and, for the most part, barely audible. Aside from mentioning that it was "cold here," Maynard didn't say jack. Didn't step out of the shadows even once that I saw, and just generally seemed disinterested and without an ounce of passion.

Bummer.

Sound was poor, but a great show nonetheless.

Does anybody have a picture of Danny they could share?? He was sporting a Zack Novak jersey, I need to have proof of that!

Kinda pissed we got the shortened setlist after driving 4 and half hours but otherwise it was a fucking amazing show. The band was tight and Maynard sounded great. Since when has there been two opening bands? I knew who Intronaut are but who was the band that played before that?

This was my 3rd Tool show. I was blown away, once again. Where I was sitting the sound was great. The set was an incredible list. Lets not forget the gnarly "drum off" during Lateralus. Good shit. Always amazing.

Intronaut was fucking sweet...go see them for sure if your going to the next couple of shows. I liked how the whole GA was seated and the guys working down low looked like ushers in a theater. Carney lookin mofos were selling shirts right up until Tool came on with Hooker with a Penis....classic setup...very funny Maynard (fuck you buddy). I sat in 107 and I didn't have issues with sound. It wasn't the best sounding show I've been to but it definitely wasn't the worst. I personally don't really care how clearly I can hear Maynard because he sings/screams like an old man anyway....I mean no attempt at a crazy "RIGHHHT" scream in Stinkfist? Weak. Plus he fucked up a couple of times...he was the weakest link last night. It's probably why he didn't acknowledge the crowd at the end of the show with the rest of the band. I like the new visuals they have this time around. Pushit was freakin sweet. Intension/46&2 was eye candy. When Danny hit the gong in Lateralus it pierced my ears...very cool. Overall I thought the show kicked ass. Adam, Justin, and Danny were kick ass as usual. Being a Michigan fan I really liked Danny's Michigan - 0 Jersey. Hopefully the Blair post is correct and a new album will pop up in May so they tour later this year.

I drove 3 hours as well, and due to 'Knife' from Detroit , obviously got screwed out of "The Pot"-(was hoping for Parabol/Parabola but either would of been better than none!)
Got ahold of Floor6 tickets in 7th row, sound wasn't terrible but clipped a couple times during Push-it( note: Maynard refrained from the 'staring down the hole again' verse), and the megaphone he uses was drowned out during Ticks & Leeches. Adam had guitar issues during the second verse of Push-it, not sure wether a string broke or what, but switched guitars and chatted with tech for a sec during volume swell part. When Maynard was audible he sounded fantastic, Intension blew me away! Good to see Hooker and Ticks; but absolute highlights was the new jam before Schism and the drum dueling in Lateralus, best Danny has ever fed off, as I've ever seen. Junior's new digi-screen is out of this world, tried to say hi and thanks while walking out but he just kept his head down and ignored....?
I give this show a B+ @ best... But I tend to gauge on my experience from their 09/14/2001 Columbus,Oh show.... Of which really can't be topped.
Btw, got the entire audio.
Oh yea, and the last 'F you buddy!', was 'F you Toledo!'...

This was my 2nd Tool show ( DTE '07) and it was way better than the first one. This show had a huge Aenima Tour feel to it and that was their peak IMO. Danny was rockin' the Michigan jersey, (in Ohio) sweet! Justin is one of the top five bass players in the biz. Adam is definately an audiophile, constantly tweaking the sound until it rips your face off. Maynard was sporting a black T-shirt that read POSTAL and his billyclub. Maynard is never very talkative, he did say "Thank You" before the last song, I thought that was cool. I was in F3 and I thought it sounded amazing. I heard a couple of gliches from Maynard's mic, Adam even turned and looked back on one of them. He screamed a couple of times like a much younger man. Visuals were awesome, they were even showing graphics on the speaker cages, no room for another screen I guess. Pushit was amazing to see live. Wish they had done The Pot or Sober as reviewed in other shows but no disappointment here. Dragged the ol'lady with me to this show. She could only compare it to Tim McGraw and Def Leppard. For the first hour after the show all I could get out of her was "WOW". I just said " That's why they're my favorite band". If you're a fan, don't miss this tour.

This was my 5th or 6th show and although they started a little "off", I was worried that's how the whole show was going to be b/c the guitar was drowning out Maynard's voice and he was using the voice box a bit much & they just weren't in sync at first. However, they certainly pulled it together and it ended up being an amazing show regardless of any little hiccups.

As always, Tool puts on an amazing visual show, it was mind blowing! Danny Carey was flawless as usual, that man is absolutely amazing!! I haven't read many people mentioning the drum solo, I'd like to know who came on stage to play w/Danny. Maynard was def a man of few words last night, so I missed who it was, but either way the drum solo was AMAZING & def worth mentioning!!!

The opening bands were ok, but I wish Tool would eliminate opening bands & play for hours, as I'm sure most wish. Intronaut had a good sound but both bands had that death metal scream and it was a bit much. In fact, if Intronaut eliminated the dealth metal scream, I'd probably like them more. Huntington Center was much smaller venue then the Palace in Michigan, so that was a pleasant surprise, b/c the seats were good in a smaller venue. Overall, great show, as always, Tool is an amazing band that I hope to see more of in the future!!! I hope they add a Detroit show b/c I would def go see them again in my hometown!!!

This was my third time seeing the boys, and I think it was my favorite of the three. I noticed a couple times Maynard's vocals weren't loud enough, mostly during Ticks, but that definitely didn't ruin the night for me.

Pushit was absolutely incredible, that made my night. I thought Intronaut's drummer was very good with Danny for Lateralus.

I also have an extra poster (unsigned) if anyone is interested. I ended up getting an autographed one on the way out the door so I'm going to sell the unsigned one I bought before the show.

Re: 01.24.2012 - Toledo, OH @ Huntington Centre

This was my third time seeing the boys, and I think it was my favorite of the three. I noticed a couple times Maynard's vocals weren't loud enough, mostly during Ticks, but that definitely didn't ruin the night for me.

Pushit was absolutely incredible, that made my night. I thought Intronaut's drummer was very good with Danny for Lateralus.

I also have an extra poster (unsigned) if anyone is interested. I ended up getting an autographed one on the way out the door so I'm going to sell the unsigned one I bought before the show.

Although I'm huge fan of tool, however this is my first live performance. Being an avid musician myself, I know all their songs by heart, and am able to transcribe most everything they play (the guitar portions, bass and 6 string, are not complex musically). The secret of Adam's guitar playing is the color he adds to his music. It's almost as if he is painting, the way he adds depth and life to his work.

Adam and Danny are bigger in person than I would've guessed.

Their set list is so short, I don't understand why they took a 15 minute interlude. Refresh yourselves on stage, guys. Talk to us.

My brain has been effectively scrambled after that 15 minute audio barrage of "plasma," noises that they left on during their interlude.

Overall, the laser show was spectacular.

I was getting bad vibes from Maynard. He disappointed me with his effort. I felt he was rude. Perhaps he didn't care much for the audience ( full of teens and ignorant kids), but there are some of us that aren't trashed and are more respectful of this event, so we should all be thought of. He didn't bow to the audience at the end, or thank us for that matter.

No, Maynard, I don't find your quirky actions to be mesmerizing. If you're(maynard) going to carry a night stick around on stage, you're telling everyone that you're afraid of someone getting up there and really doing some damage to your old body. Why don't you deal with them with your bare hands as I've seen you do before? You're sending bad messages to your fans. You have a responsibility to other humans.

Everything maynard does is a statement, and I just think he is getting weaker, older, physically and spiritually. Why tour if you don't care?
I really like Adam, Danny, and Justin. They look like a family up there. I personally wouldn't mind seeing those 3 perform without maynard. He barely sang, barely talked, and was in the dark the entire time. When he did sing, it was over his own voice track... so... just... go away.

The essence of Tool was and always will be is the atmosphere created by the music. Adam and Danny had a vision of being able to convey such emotions through this medium of music, and they stay true to what that is. That is why I, and so many others began to like them. NEVER was the poetry and writing of maynard, or his weirdness the reason I got into this band. Go ahead and overthink everything, Maynard, your poems don't impress me.

Adam and Danny: maynard is replaceable! What I see and what I feel is that you 2 are TOOL.

Much love, and if I disrespected any Maynard fans, it was not intended.

Keep making songs Danny, Adam and Justin. You all complement each other musically in such a uniquely fascinating way.

They're not going to replace Maynard. That said, he doesn't seem to sing in time with the music very often anymore. I noticed it at the Fox Theater show a couple years ago as well. He rushes the beat on a regular basis. Sometimes it seems like he's racing through the lines to get them over with. Maybe his monitors suck and he can't hear the rest of the band.

It was a weird night. Didn't seem right.

Rubycon^ makes some good points. I wondered if he was using a voice track. The first time I saw them in '07, I came away pissed due to MJK. I love their music so I pay up and tolerate his BS. Also, why take a 15 min break to come back out and play 1 song. Maynard did say Thank You before the last song. After the last song he was holding up 1 finger to the crowd, I thought it meant they would do 1 more. Then he flipped us off and exited rear stage. I would pay to see them again but he can be a dick.

So utterly confused by the sentiment expressed here...

You are either new to seeing them live of jaded by seeing them in their "prime" back in the day. Either way, it strikes me as odd you'd be so critical of this performance.

07/09 tour was full of setlist complaints. Now after the 10/11 tour and this 12 tour, I'm seeing less of that and more bitching about how Maynard's not into it, not feeling it emotionally, not truly singing.

What does he honestly have to do? They played Hooker, Ticks, and Pushit and you're still gonna say he phoned it in or wasn't feeling it?

Does he sound like he did in 1996 or 2001? NO. This is 2012 and Maynard is 50 years old. Think about that for a second. The man is still putting a lot of effort into songs he vocally pushed himself to the limit with 10+ years ago.

Come on people, I know it's not album-quality Maynard James Keenan but seriously, whenever I read these reviews as of late the tone screams of people looking for problems in the performance and not just sitting back and enjoying the experience.

I was at this show and I had an incredibly awesome time. I was on the floor in line with Adam and besides the very beginning of Hooker, had no trouble hearing Maynard the entire night. I heard him scream in ways I NEVER expected to hear that night because I went in with realistic expectations.

Fucking Ticks and Leeches starts and the random guy next to me shared my instantaneous "HOLY SHIT NOOOO FUCKING WAAY!" moment. The ending of that song I expected 0 noise from Maynard after hearing about how difficult it was to record and likewise perform live (only having been performed a handful of times before this too). Guess what, he delivered and I felt there was nothing missing from the rendition they gave us by the time it ended.

Pushit blew my mind at how sonically on point they can all be. I'd never heard it live before and it was very special to know that this emotional song was in the set. That breakdown had the crowd going WILD too. Very special moment.

Schism intro, new material or not was very pleasing. I loved the beat Danny had going once he kicked it into gear.

Intension... wow was not expecting that one. Such a beautiful song with highly on point visuals. At the end I was praying beyond all hope they'd jump into Right In Two (saw that in 06 but barely remember it) but nope, perfect segue into Forty Six & 2. They of course knock that one out of the park every time.

Felt weird about the rushed start to Lateralus. Something with the timing of the show was clearly up since we didn't get another song after the intermission. Whatever the case, that is my only real gripe with the show on the whole.

The new video screen though... my god it is like Tool in IMAX (stealing this description from someone else). Once it had opened all the way I was watching the high'd up people around me jump during some of the transitions.. all those pixels flying at ya! :)

In closing, I am super stoked for the future of TOOL. One thing I haven't seen anyone say in here is that at the beginning, I think after Jambi, Maynard most DEFINITELY said "Yeah, there'll be another one.."

That is pretty much the point of my half-assed rant. I just love hearing/seeing them all. If Maynard isn't the same as he used to be and gives it 50% for us well paying fans, fuck it. *edit* That's not to say I believe he does. Any time I've seen him, I've not associated his demeanor toward fans with the effort he puts into belting out his lyrics.

Them playing Hooker and Ticks was taken as a statement by me, potentially specifically from Maynard, that he is playing the role of entertainer that has something to sell. We buy it.

Don't get me wrong, the glorious, triple layered, masterful composition of Adam, Danny, and Justin is what got me hooked on this band. My money is fully well spent just having a night seeing and hearing them perform.

Like others said, the sound was not the best, but it was not the worst. The venue itself really impressed me actually, it was neat, clean, and organized, I'd go back for another concert. I'm actually glad MJK didn't address the crowd and waste my time with crowd blather, I'm paying him to sing and for the rest of the band to perform songs, I don't care about their mannerisms. I can really side with the band for not being friendly, they're there to play, they see thousands of fans and I'm sure get a bunch of crazy people writing them letters everyday on how their music has changed their lives, it just must get old and overwhelming as time rolls on. A Tool show no matter what they play and how they perform is a special event, their visuals and style are literally second to none, the will always promote a soothing ambiance. Their new videos this time were awesome as always, same with the laser show and lighting effects. MJK always stands in the back and sings, I'm surprised this is news to people still, I think it shows respect for the Adam, Danny, and Justin, while not spiting the crowd. Let's face it, MJK is a weird guy, though talented, no one here should be surprised by any of his actions or words, he as fans will never understand him and vice versa. I think fans get this perplexed idea in their heads that Rockstars and celebrities are these great friendly people when in reality I wouldn't want to know or meet them out of sheer disappointment. People complain about the "short" set list, but you have to remember most of their songs are 8 minutes or more longer. This was the fifth time I've seen Tool and I think they always put on a great show, I have no regrets about this concert and feel privileged I had a chance to see them. There are always going to be pros and cons of every concert, this show had more pros than cons. Hell I'm even going to physically buy their next album at an overpriced big box store and pretend that it's 1995 all over again!

If your opinion is that the performances of late have not been sung "properly" by Maynard, I feel sorry for you and your high and mighty standard of excellence you apparently demand.

Irony of it all: you are still planning on seeing them again.

Instead of asking Maynard to get over himself, why don't you try eating your own words the next time you buy the ticket and reinforce his choice to sing for us.

Yo def con 2, i respect what your sayin man. I've seen most those bands you've mentioned, big fan of primus and melvins.. wish i would of seen primus that last tour, didn't tho. Been seein tool shows since aenima days, some shows with melvins, buzz came out and jammed. You know what i'm sayin, it was a whole different feel then, goosebumps thinkin bout them old shows, but all them bands just don't come close to how tool throws down. Boo hoo bout how maynard acts at shows. I go there to hear the songs, and these days to get blown away from the visual set up they got. I could give 2 fucks if maynard even talked at all. None of those other bands have even come close to giving me that feeling that tool does. You've been round since old school tool prolly, like me you've prolly heard 46n2all those songs 20 + times live, except 10,000 days ones. I've never been blasted so hard by those songs, with those screens and lights like they're doin now

Maynard is a hooker, and i loved spending my money on those sluts in toledo. What do yall want, a few stupid jokes like he used to do, oHIo, ha ha ha, that made the show so much better. My opinion is nothing comes close to tool then and now. Come on man, that Lateralus, shit !! Mastadon couldn't dream up shit like that, well maybe dream it, after they saw it. I understand where your comin from tho, don't give the hooker your $ next time, but you'll prolly be at the show bitchin bout somethin. Please bro, compare tool to mastadon. Thats weak, now don't you forget to buy tool's new album and send more $.. contribute to more art that will blow minds, while i piss on mastadon's bogus new cd.. i don't mind hookers when they fuck me good, i got rubbers.. see you at the next tool show, peace $$$$$$

Can't say I was thrilled about the first 2 songs sound quality...Danny was moving faster and the others were not keeping up until Stinkfist IMO. Not sure if it was because of the poor sound or because Danny was just on fire.

That being said the rest of the show fawking got it like I expect from Tool. Pushit was over the top and they always seem to play forty six and 2 about as tight as it can be done...however I was ready to set myself on fire and jump from the balcony when they did NOT play The Pot. I was jacked when I saw they were playing it at other shows and was really looking forward to hearing it.

I was very impressed with the crowd...everyone I witnessed was having a good time and acting civilized.

I did feel sorry for the poor saps that spent money for floor seats...did not even have cup holders.

These negative reviews are shit. I honestly cannot believe it. What a disappointing group of "fans". Where the fuck were you people?! Everyone I came in contact with was on cloud 10,000. 9th Tool show = AMAZING. I do admit I miss MJK's moves, but goddammit that shouldn't determine all this BS. I'm tired of hearing all this "old" shit too. WHO GIVES A FUCK! Maynard, you've rocked my world for 20 years now , thank you for that. People are obviously a lil too critical. It sounds like some of you were sitting with paper and pen just waiting for any minor fuck up to critique on. I did lol when I read that someone is actually whining about the nightstick. Wtf is that man, seriously? HAHA! Well, I absolutely LOVED this show. Brought 3 newbies with me from Pittsburgh and they were all blown away. Funny how that works huh? Try to have some fun people instead of spending money for critiquing......oh, and Spiral out

I hope nobody associated with the band reads these nit picky posts. Toledo has reinvented themselves with this new vanue. I hate going to other cities to see my favorite bands. We got lucky to have them come here. It is a live show, they perform, there crew does their best to take their art and put it in our ear drums. I hope they return to Toledo again. There energy was great. I think MJK is putting it on the line singing the songs from years ago. No other band can create the collective like they do. If you were there you know you felt it.

First time poster after coming to this site since 2002. I was at this show and I agree to the negative things people are saying about Maynard. I remember 10 years ago, after a tool show the whole band would do a group hug and it really made it seem they were a family or close friends. Now Maynard bolts after the show and pretty much takes everything and everyone for granted.

Justin, Danny and Adam are the core of Tool and I feel bad for them becuase they have to wait for Maynard to be done with a new Puscifer cd or an A Perfect Circle tour in order to do anything Tool related.

Since August 2011 up till March 2012 most people should have gotten a chance to see APC, Tool, and Pusicfer.

The worst Maynard performace I ever saw was during the 2011 APC tour. He is definitly trying to do too much. How are you going to do 3 tours with 3 different bands and release a new pusicfer cd in a 6 months time span. You really can't give all your attention with so many things going on in such of short period of time.

His "Fuck you Toledo" at the end of hooker with a penis was just plan disresctful. I just spent $400 on a 5 hour trip to Toledo so Maynard can tell me to fuck off.
Well fuck you sir.

and get rid of that damn mohawk!

Damn.... I guess I'm just ridiculously out of the loop or something. I forgot to read all the bitching, whining, and complaining so I could walk out with an attitude. Instead, I just took in a GREAT Tool show and LIKED it. Was the mix off? Yup. I was the FIRST guy in the door. According to event staff, the reason the doors opened about 15 minutes late was they were trying to fix some mix issues.

Since I've had the pleasure of spending YEARS on the road sleeping and working in a different place EVERY day, I know it kicks your ass in a hurry, even in one of those big, pretty Prevost coaches. I'm imagining what Justin, or Danny, or Maynard, or Adam's day must be like. At about 12 or 1 am after the Toledo show, the band was probably waiting in a nice long line of traffic at the Ambassador bridge. When they finally got to customs, they got to wake up, if even asleep, and clear the border. Then it's about a 6 hour drive to Toronto. That puts us at about 8 or 9 AM. The crew shows up with about 6 truck loads of crap a couple hours later and your day begins. No familiar surroundings. No family. 2200 miles (or more) from home. You're in a cold, dreary place. There were issues last night and that pissed people off. After a day of hiding from a mix of sane and deranged fans, dealing with the issues of the day because.... YEAH, you DO give a SHIT about the show... and dealing with road life, the end of your day brings 2 or 3 hours on a stage in front of a few thousand people expecting you to perform flawlessly. ...which you're probably not gonna. Then some self-righteous nut-sucker is gonna bust your chops in an internet forum. "Fuck you, buddy" pretty much sums it up on a real broad basis after a while.

These guys have more money than they will ever live long enough to spend. These guys LIKE doing this... ALL of them.

It's a shame the bigger picture and deeper thought have been forlorn. For instance, if Maynard's vocals sucked THAT much, THAT consistently, and his ability had deteriorated THAT much, do you really think the other's would WANT his contribution? It reasonably follows that Maynard must be providing something the rest not only tolerate, but continue to desire. Seems to me a little convoluted to be more critical than the BAND.

Also, I'd like to explain why I'm a Tool fan... because apparently some of you are a little ass-backwards on what being a fan of a group is about. I'm a Tool fan because I VERY much enjoy and relate to the unique expression of emotion they deliver and the skill with which they do it. It doesn't have jack to do with what my friends listen to. Or with how trippy the videos or concerts are. I like the guys. I like the music they make. And if some guy in that line of work wants to take my money and tell me to fuck off, I'm not gonna make big hay about it. Why? Because I know when you can do something in real high demand, calling the asshole paying you an asshole isn't really going to change the business relationship.

It's Tool people... Imperfect/lackluster/deliberately strange shows have been par for the course for a VERY long time now. I guess I just LIKE it imperfect or something. It's not some polished piece of bullshit. It's like human beings being REAL human beings. I know... that's all kinds of fucked up.
